What's the verdict on the Zeiss red-dot?

How do these compare to Eotech, Trijicon, Meprolight reflex etc?

Fantastic. Crystal-clear optics, crisp self-regulating dot, light, low power usage (solar cell during the day).

I prefer circle-dot reticles, and so would take the eotech/holosight, but the Zeiss is superior in other ways.

That's the same s**t they put on G36 and MP7.

Not even close.

Totally different dot technology and appearance; wide FOV; good battery life especially as augmented by the large solar panel on top; standard, readily-available flat lithium cells; adjustable base brightness; little or no colour shift; etc.

The only similarity is the self-adjusting intensity depending on target illumination. And that's a good thing, much better than self-adjusting sights that go by ambient light (eg Doctor Optic), which are too dim when shooting from a dark/light transition. Such as a covered firing line to a sunlight target.

rail grabber is plastic

The Gen II's, out for some time now, are aluminum-bodied. The 'grabber' is fibre-reinforced plastic. Oh yeah, kind of like a Glock's frame, which falls apart when you look at it. Or the Springfield XD's and new S&W MP's, which turn to dust inside of a year.

I'll put you on my "have him try it before moving on" list for cool stuff. Might be fun to meet you down at Union Station after work.

Perhaps you'd like to take a turn at my .50AE AR15? Can you even shoot something like that at Union? After all, it _is_ a pistol calibre... with a Leupold CQ/T on top.

Thanks! Maybe we can meet at EESA again? :)

Union station is indeed handgun only (long guns in pistol calibers are not allowed)...and they are not exactly the biggest fans of "black guns"
