What's the word on H&K pistols?

I don't know much about guns, but I've read somewhere
in the hk you have to put the bullets backwards or sumpin like that.

They are worth the extra money IMO. I have for the last 15yrs. owned H&K's I have never had a malfunction of any sort,Never had to replace a part...EVER. Have had the Mark23,USP.45,HK45,USP.40,P2000,USP-9mm,P30L(v3). H&K builds for the armies and police forces of the world and hence the awfull triggers. That being said training with them you can shoot just as fast and accurate as someone with a stock 1911 can.
You can just order from European suppliers for parts with no problems and less wait than local dealers.
They are a proven battle tested platform of pistol...IMO you can't go wrong with a H&K.

Are you guys sure?

the guy at lever arms told me H&K was crap XD (he seriously did tho.)

I love my p2000. lever can suck mah balls.

Not to derail my own thread, but somebody there tried to tell me the Norinco p226 copy was better than the real Sig Sauer, used better steel, etc. so...

:D

Its Lever Arms....what more do you expect,he wants to sell you his junk. They ceased being a good store @10yrs ago. They don't seem to remember what customer service and quality are. BTW if they don't sell it...all others are junk.
The above is just my personal opinion and experiences with them.

If all these "clones" are so good...why are military and police etc... not useing them and not the originals.

How are H&K pistols compared to the M&P?

IMO,
HK pistols are much better.
I've owned many HK's and they never jammed. I would give them excellent accuracy but as others have mentioned its not a match 1911 barrel.
If you can pony up the $ for an HK you will not regret it.

I have a USP .40 and used to have a P30L 9mm. I can say I liked them more than my Glock, Sig, S&W 4505. I traded my P30L for a Springfield .40 1911 because a nice 1911 pretty much beats anything else as a range toy.
Parts and mags can be had but they cost more than average.
There seems to be a weird elitist/fanboy thing on the internet regarding these guns because of their inclusion in some video games and all mall ninja 3-D HiDef tacti-colour fantasies.

In some ways, HKs are really the "nerdiest" of all guns. People believe they are better because they read somewhere that some military/police/special forces unit uses them. Virtually every gun under the sun is used by some military/police/special forces unit somewhere, and the overall quality of the firearm is certainly not the only factor that goes into procurement decisions - and yet the "SF nerd factor" attaches to some guns more than others. I would say that the picture of the guy (an actor in a promo shot) with the USP.40 on the cover of the original Rainbow Six video game is part of what started it.

For me, the USP-type guns (USP, Mark23, P2000, P30, etc.) are good, but they are much more like what everyone else puts out now (short recoil, locked breach, "polymer" frame, plastic double stack mags), and they absolutely cannot hold a candle to what HK was putting out in decades past. The old HKs cost more, but there was a reason - the engineering in them was unbelieveable and was unlike anything else on the market. The USPs are pricey for what they are.

Having said all that, although I think the GLOCK 19 is the best all-around duty-type pistol, I drink from the HK nerd Kool-Aid too. I've got 6 of them and another one (ex-Belgian Police Police P7M13) on the way. P9S is by far the most accurate. P7M8 and P7M13 are awesome all-around guns.

There may be some truth to that, no? IIRC, the Norinco 1911 clones use a harder steel than most American 1911 clones. Not much of a stretch to think that they'd use harder steel than real Sigs -- which are alloy framed?

It is true what Ghostie said about newer HK offerings compared to the older more innovative designs in favor of the more wonderbread latest products. I find the P7 P9S and Vp70 interesting but am very limited in resources to acquire such a collection.
After seeing that cover I realize that my issue sand goggles are not near LCF enough.

HK parts are available. I do some research for parts that need to be replaced...every 25K rounds...and order a bunch from Wolverine. Takes almost a year to get them!!!

LEM isn't too bad, the version in the P2000 that was sold by Wolverine is the V1 LEM with super light take up then a 4.5 - 5 lb break that feels like a single action. I have felt the DA/SA trigger on a friend's tuned USP that was amazing. I wish they could have made a P2000 with a DA/SA cocked and locked like the USP. The DA/SA cocked and locked on a P30S is NOT as short or crisp as the one for the USP. I find the USP too blocky for my small hands.

If Glock had made a pistol with a more ergonomically angled grip...for me anyway...that was adjustable for smaller hands I might have gone for that due to ease of obtaining parts. They don't...yet...so I'll stick with HK.

..............Sorry but #### that noise. Any mass produced mechanical device can break, I dont care if John Moses Browning himself rose from the grave and blessed the gun. If a single parts breakage brings it down for over year I may as well turn the gun over to police for destruction and purchase a new one. -.-

I ordered some mag springs for my USP 45 from Wolverine, never did get them, gun is sold now lol. Was a nice piece but ill go for a G21 Gen 4 first.

Let's see............out of the 7 pistols I currently own.................................4 are HK's!! HK .45 USP, HK45, Mark23 and an HK P7M8.

As mentioned above, zee Germans design and manufacture some excellent products, including guns. LOL
But as we all know, German made products generally cost more.

The quality control system used by HK is almost unheard of in any other gun production company. They have their own 'in house' QA department, however, the production and in house QA is also "overseen" by an outside 'third party' QA department.

Sig earned their great reputation years ago. When Sig began to produce and assembly pistols in the US, the production was closely monitored and quality was pretty good. However as most of us know, Sig quality slipped a few years after, especially in the last few years after a 'bean counter' took control!

This is the reason I own/shoot two older West German made Sigs, a P226 and P220! Take a look at what a fully German made Sig (X Five) will set you back and compare the cost to a US made gun. The pricing almost speaks for it's self! I shot a 9mm X Five this year and I couldn't believe how nice it was to shoot and how accurate it was, better than my 1984 P226! When I get the spare $2K +, an X Five is on my shopping list!

My HK45 was produced/assembled in the HK US plant, using the German production equipment HK imported when they decided to produce this gun in the US. From what I have heard and can tell from shooting my gun, the production of these guns is closely monitored to ensure typical HK high quality is maintained.

Although the Mk23 is a large gun, it is an absolute pleasure to shoot. The design criteria for this gun was produced to meet was incredible. I doubt many pistols would pass the limits and testing this gun had to meet.
You don't think you are shooting a .45 the recoil and action are that smooth. The accuracy is incredible, I get a lot of 'clover leafs' when I shoot this gun. Years ago (early 70's) I bought a brand new Colt Gold Cup Match, I would put these two guns against each other in accuracy any day. The recoil from the Mk23 is not as harsh/snappy as my old Colt.

Then we have the HK P7 family. IMHO, these guns are 'works of art'! I marvel in the design and workmanship in my P7M8. The pistol is a treat to shoot, it's compact, accurate and probably the safest pistol I own. If we had open/concealed carry in Canada, this is the pistol I would be 'packing'!!

I know I'll get "flamed" for posting this, but as far as Glocks go, although I own three poly guns, I'm not a fan of Glock. Although they make different frame sizes in common calibers, basically every Glock is the same design. The variety of pistols, rifles, and SMG's that HK designs and produces impresses me.
As I'm an 'old fart' and have seen all sorts of mechanical devices fail at some point in time during my life, I don't care for the 'striker fire' design. A gun that is loaded, cocked, and you are relying on the fact that a mechical device is holding back the spring loaded firing pin is not for me! I wonder where that term "Glock leg" comes from?! Give me a pistol with an exposed hammer, with an external safety or two, or a squeeze cocker any day!!!!

That's my 2 cents.

Merry Christmas to all CGN'ers and their families. Let's hope 2012 brings us Canadian gun owners more freedom and new 'toys'.
