What's the word on H&K USPs?

I ordered a second Sig Sauer P226 (should take some time) but then i started reading up on H&K USPs.

Expensive guns, but they look beautifully utilitarian.
I know people say "Oh H&K hates consumers" but beyond that, it seems to be a well-made gun that can be "cocked & locked" and DA/SA too.

But are they worth it? I have two Glocks already. A Glock 17 costs 700 to 750, a USP 1050-1100. Using the lowest prices for both, the USP is 400 bucks more.

What's the used market like?
Details.

I have a 9mm USP. It's a quality gun although the grip is quite large and might be an issue if you have small hands. I also have a Sig 226 9mm which I prefer because it feels more compact (don't know if it really is) and less 'blocky'. The one thing I really don't like about the USP is the mag release which is under the trigger guard and you have to pull down on it to release the mag. Maybe it's because I'm so used to the 1911 style mag release which the Sig also uses but I've never really gotten used to the USP release. They are accurate, easily on a par with the Sig. On the EE the 9mm & 40 S&W USPs consistently sell in the $900-$1000 range for excellent condition ones. They seem to sell fairly quickly so there must be some demand for them.

Great gun. Mag release is the worst but can be made better with an extension. Mags are expensive.

I have a tonne of 'em...what can I say, I love them. Yeah, they're pricey, maybe a bit over-priced, parts are difficult to acquire at times, and mags are rediculously expensive, but they're great firearms. And yes, I am a fan of the mag release on the USP, extended or not...I have no issue with it at all...it works fine for me.

However, my opinions are just that...my opinions. I can tell you all day long that they're awesome guns, but the fact that they fit me like a glove may not be the same for yourself. Everyone's different. If you've grown a little interested in the USP, then you should try to hook-up with someone at your local range and try one out. Kinda' hard to dish out $1k plus on a gun that you really have no clue about.

My 2 cents...

I have a USP 45 and i love it. Fit and finish is amazing. Very accurate gun and i am by no means a good shot either. It does suck about about the mag cost but nothing we can do about that. 9mm and .40 are fairly easy to find on the EE but .45's are alittle tougher to find. I also a Gen4 G21 and i like that too and love it.

bought one 2 weeks ago from site sponsor guns and games stainless 45 for 1010 shipped and taxes included. took it out today 200rnds not one problem. fairly accurate in my hands. overall very happy. just buy one! i did never even handled one before.

i have a usp9 full size. a few thousand rounds and still no malfunction on any ammo i use. the only downside is that grip is too big for my wife. but ok with me. polygonal barrel is combat accurate. nice lockup. trigger is better than my 226 (at least to me). of all my 1911 obsessions, this is still my "go to" gun.

Guys, these $1100 pistols should have no malfs in several tens of thousands of rounds, 200 rounds is a short range session, not a measure of reliability. If you have 10,000 rounds through one without an issue it's reliable - less than that it may as well be a Norc.

had a hk usp in 45... loved it, used it well. Its not picky on ammo at all, it was flawless for me. no problems at all. It shot quite nice and accurate and the recoil is managable, however, i shot softer 45's with polymer frames. The advantage is that you can set this gun up to single/double, DOA only, safety no safety, all sorts of variants with just parts swaps. One thing that turns me off about hk is its unavailability of parts, the cost of replacement parts (not that it needed it) and the rumour that its now a discontinued gun. hence thats why i got rid of it. If you are using it as a range plinker, fill your boots, its perfect for that, but as a long term competition gun, shes going to be costly

I had a USP in .45 it was quite accurate and soft shooting but with lots of muzzle flip. Thought about picking up one in 9mm or .40 but they are just too many other good guns that are cheaper.

Getting ride of a gun because of RUMORS, wow. I have now read it all

...better not sell that AR-15...buddy fuddy told me at the range the police are gonna ban them soon!!! Same with hollow point ammo!!!

PS. even IF it does get discontinued there is still 1000s of them in Canada and a million(s) of them in the USA. You can find parts, it just takes more work then a 5 second google search to find them.

Love my USP 40 and I didn't pay $1100 or whatever some of you guys think... Paid $970+tax (brand new) with free shipping. Great pistol. Soft shooting, feels like a 9 due to the recoil reduction system. I know guys are going to say the same crap about the price, but I paid $970 and it's worth it for a pistol I absolutely love, with fantastic fit and finish. Takes all ammo and never falters.

Only complaint would be the long DA trigger (SA is good) and the polymer mags. Otherwise, I think it's the most refined pistol I have ever shot.
