Hi CGN,

I've been going through my safe and thinning the heard to make room for a semi-auto MG and thought I might put some mil-surps for sale. Problem is, I don't know what this FN 49 is worth these days and I don't necessarily want to sell it.

I know it's a Venezuelan issued rifle but by the looks of the stock it may have been refinished. It appears that the original stamping in the wood has been sanded down but is still partially visible in one of the photos.

I read the sticky on this gun and I really enjoyed reading some of the history. I bought this gun a while ago only because I loved the look of it so i'd appreciate if some kind CGN'ers could help me out on this. I havent seen too many still for sale on the EE lately so any help would be great.

I'll take a pic of the muzzle and post it likely tomorrow am.

Thanks for the input guys! If that's the general price range I may just have to part ways with it. I got on a preorder list for a TNW m37 so the wife instructed me to sell off the ones I love the least. :(

That is too cheap. Last week a Venez 7mm FN49 went up on the EE at $1100 and sold pretty quick. With only 8000 made they are the rarest of the FN-49s and they are the only model that have the slide on the left hand side of the receiver which is for the scope mount that is still possible to find. A european dude on Ebay occassionaly sells them. I believe the Venezuelans planned to put a marksman with a scoped semi in every section. The OIP scopes were used on the Belgian "snipers" but I suspect the Venezuelans may have planned to put the M84 scope on it which would have been much cheaper and easier to get. There are lots of original M84s and reproductions out there for reasonable prices.

6-700 buys you an Egyptian 8mm, once you get in to the Belgian/Lux/Venez models I think its a grand and up depending on condition.

do the numbers match? how is the bore? the stock looks nice but the refinishing will hurt value.

The bore is good (based on standard evaluation criteria). As for numbers... If someone could let me know where to find all the serial numbers I would check it out and report back

Looks like you have #6107 out of 8000.
You may only have a 2nd matching serial number engraved on the bolt, but nothing much elsewhere. Looks like you have a cartouche on the stock as well. I don't think the refinishing job really hurts it. These are not historically important or valuable - their value is in the rarity and that it is FN made which means good wood, good steel, good everything. Everything FN made or makes is top quality.

Confirmed. I could only find one other serial number without disassembly and it was also 6107.

So i suppose it will be going up on the EE soon enough. Hopefully i dont regret this later.

Thanks all. This was informative and i appreciate the help

Is it in 7x57 or 30-06?

I would never sell a rifle like that. Hasn't the wife got some good china or something you could sell instead?:p
