Has anyone noticed a jump in the price of. 303 British factory ammo in the last few weeks? Was shocked to see Federal bluebox 150 & 180 gr priced at over $30 a box at several local Canadian Tire stores. Coastal Outdoors, an independent chain here in Newfoundland that has gotten into guns & ammo sales in a big way over the past couple of years, was even more expensive. $32.99 + tax for either Remington 180 gr ammo loaded with Core-Lokts or S&B 180 gr.

That's a 25-30% jump in price since the last time I bought some for another project. Is this just a Newfoundland phenomena or has .303 British prices jumped in price to the same degree on the mainland as well? When I asked about the price increase one clerk blamed the "Obama Effect" & the coming US elections this fall. Panic buying, ammo hoarding, etc... all driving prices up. I could see it if we were talking. 223/5.56, .308/7.62 or even. 30-06, but. 303 British? Seriously?

I'm glad I reload & cast my own bullets for the. 303, but there is going to be a lot of Moose hunters with sticker shock come September/October.

Election year so panic buying is back in State side.

Ammo, components, guns....prices will rise and fall just like the stock market. Buy low and sell high.

I remember how crazy things got back in 2008, with all the panic buying, and guys in the US buying ammo by the pallet load, but wouldn't figure a comparatively unpopular caliber like. 303 British to be affected to the same degree.

Thinking about it, however, I guess ammo manufacturers would necessarily direct more resources towards meeting the demand for. 223/7.62/9mm/.45ACP/.40S&W...thus reducing production capacity for less popular calibers like .303 British. Given the Law of Supply & Demand, less supply would cause an increase in the price.

That said, the S&B stuff shouldn't be as expensive. I think Wolverine Supplies has it on their website at $24.50. Local stores gouging a little?

Yup, I paid about 32 bucks after taxes for a box of 20 .303 British at crappy tire about a month ago. Standard stuff, Federal, I think.

I don't shoot my Enfield much anymore.

The simple answer is to reload and save. Then shoot more and enjoy a new hobby when its to cold or snowing hard outside next winter. I have enjoyed reloading almost as much as the shooting that follows and the saving mean more shooting so bullseye all round.

too get anywhere with the .303 you need to reload and cast i like my cast soft nose although i have not had time to use them on deer but after passing through a few wtater jugs i like what i see

On canada day weekend cabela's had Remington 303 $10 off ($21). I thought that was way more meaningful and patriotic than all of the cheap canada flags made in china that everyone else had.

Wish I had bought more than 1 box.
Maybe its time to buy a press.

i wonder if we can get the canadian goverment to declare the 303 a national heitage round , and supply them to any legal , canadian citizen for a greatly reduced cost ????

Didn't they used to give out .303 surplus back when there was still some around? Back when owning a gun was a perfectly normal thing to do?
