Whats with the gophers in SE Sask?

Went west of Moose Jaw and there had to have been a good 6-10 miles of heavenly rolling pastures and we seen maybe a dozen in two days total.
Back home in the SE Corner of Sask, I have permission on a few pastures. Last year there were thousands of them, I`ve been out there three times so far and in total I`ve seen maybe 6-8. What gives??? I talked with my Dad and he thought maybe they were having their little ones and it was a touch too early for gophers. I darn hope so, it is not looking good right now.
 
Was out last week, got about 30. Going out again tomorrow, weather is supposed to be a little nicer, will see if there's more to be had. Grass is getting green the little buggers will be more active I hope.
 
I got a couple places NW of regina and only been to the one so far this year because Im waiting for the little ones to come out before I got there, but there out doing their thing there. took down only about 40 so far.

If you find a field with thousands, let me know. :)
 
I was thinking of making a call. I went on you tube and a guy is showing this one and that he bought it at Peavey Mart. I just had to, so I ran and bought one. They actually do work. Its more of a coaxing tool to get them to pop up, it doesn`t actually call them from a long ways away. Now to just paint it a color visible in case I drop it in the grass lol.

 
#1 on the gopher call, have used one for a few years, gets them to pop up. Just don't overdo it. Gophers slow near Edenwold today, only got around 50, wind blowing like stupid at times. Didn't see little ones at this location. Had a great season there last year, might account for low numbers now.
 
I was driving around Strathmore AB, which I know is a ways from Sask. but I probably stopped at 5 or 6 houses along the roads I was cruising. I did not see a single RGS anywhere. talking with home owners at all the houses I stopped at confirmed that the gophers are rare, and these are ranchers and such who have some very large tracts of land. also a nurse I work with who lives near strathmore as well said the same thing. no gophers this year so far...
 
Is there anyone around Saskatoon that has some pasture land that a couple of us can go shooting in? Been trying to find somewhere to go but so far no luck and itching to get the .22 out.

Go South. If you don`t mind to travel abit anyhow. I know some prime spots about 1/2hr south. Heck I`m 3.5hrs from there lol. If you want a guys name, I can hook you up. PM me.
 
Dragging up the dead here. Was out at my fav gopher places today, less than spectacular. Just over 40 in two locations, must have done damage last year, need new grounds.
 
So far only have seen one this year Acadia Valley Oyen Alberta area got it with the truck.
