Well, my favourite type of hunting is gopher shootin' - it's also the most volume-wise - so I'd say the 22 Hornet.

Otherwise, the 308 is nice, so's the 7mm RM, the 338 WM, and the 375.

I don't do deer hunting - if I did then I'd have to choose between 260 & 7mm-08 for inclusion in the list.

rifles

I own a 25-06,270WSM,7MM Rem,and a 338WM. Of the four if i had to use one it would be the 7MM built by Bill Leeper and D'arcy Echols, the gun shoots consistant .5'' groups at 100 meters with 160gr bullets.

Current fave is a 35 Whelen .............

............ but I have a Mountain Rifle here in 257 Roberts that I haven't tried yet. :D

For any big game hunting I reach for my .375. I've shot it enough now that I know I can handle any situation that arises. It shoots flat enough to take the long shots, and hits hard enough for following up in the willows. There are lots of bullets from 200 to 380 grains, making this cartridge more versatile today than ever before.

Well my 270WSM got a bit of a work out last fall. I'll never give up my BLR 308 for nothing. This spring my 325WSM is getting the call for bears.

My latest two "favorites" the last few years have been a .270 Win in a M70 and a .338 WinMag in a Ruger M77. Pretty much have anything I'll ever hunt in North America covered with this pair, although we all know the .30-06 is even better for all-around use ;) :D

.338 mag for big and nasty critters and then my 7x57 Brno for everything else.:)
The 154 grain Hornady's clocked in at 2700 fps out of the Brno and that should take care of the critters here on the Island.:D

I've done lots of hunting with the 7mm RM, and I like it very much. I don't know if I can pick any one as my favourite, but I do know that the 7mm is a great round that can do just about anything for the North American hunter. One caveat is that I believe this cartridge really benefits from well worked out hand loads, as lots of the stuff out there doesn't reflect its true potential.

Granted, I do like the .375 H&H. And the 7x57. And the .300 WM. And the .250-3000. etc etc.

Anyone complained yet that those are all cartridges, not calibers?

Juuuust checking... :)

I'm pretty fond of most of the 30's.
