Hey BigRedd, whatcha gettin' for velocities with yer .270 WSM? ...KF
I am shooting 3200+fps with the WSM using 71.2gr Retumbo "compressed" and 140 grain accubonds. The Recoil is quite low with Retumbo compared to faster burning powders and accuracy is sub MOA.
(My .270WSM Groundhog load is 90 grain Sierras @ 3800+ fps ;) )
Chilly and I shot a ton of Powder through standard .270's and found a very good load. Chilly's Remington .270 with 140 grain Accubonds and 63.0 grains of H-1000 "compressed" will shoot 3000 fps with sub MOA accuracy. This load is very consistent and variances are better than all other powders we tested.

3200+

...

The velocity should go up in the mountain air!

Good lord! what's the matter, you couldn't find a frikkin laser? :) That's gotta be shooting pretty darn similar trajectory to one :)

My wife and I have shot several dozen of big game with several different 270 rifles and used all manner :D of bullets to do so.

I can honestly remember only one animal that needed a second shot, a huge-bodied 62" bull moose at such long range that I am embarrassed to post. It took a second shot, that was not really necessary, as the first 130 gr Silvertip had passed through the bottom of the heart.

Deer, bear, sheep, moose or caribou, it really didn't matter much whether it was 130 Silvertips or partitions, 150 Speer Hot Cores or Bitterroot Bonded Cores. They all went down.

Bigredd, have you tried RL22 with the 140gr bullets in the .270 Win? In my Remington Mountain Rifle I had them going 3050fps with MOA accuracy.

been using 270 win 140 grain hornady BTSP's since the 80's. It will do anything you ask it to from 15 ft to 475 yards on anything from deer to moose and elk. Load what the rifle likes best and fear not..

I get very close to 3000 in my 270 with the 140AB, and sub-MOA accuracy. Got to like that. Over 400+ it shoots just as flat as the 130 started at 3100. Regards, Eagleye.

Nothing wrong with that load!

Here's my last group with the 140gr. Accubonds.

The Sierra 140gr BT hollow point pro hunters worked well. Nosler BT 140. Go as heavy as you can get for moose....

As many have stated already, I also love the 140gr. Nosler Accubonds.

I also like the 140gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip Hunting, reduces the cost of reloads and almost identical results for 2/3 the cost. Great if you like banging away at a 100 or 200 yard target out in a grainfield and don't want to worry about burning 50 rounds.

I reload both bullets with 56 grains of Hodgdon Extreme H4831 powder.
