what's your 30-30 bullet

Tried some Speer 110's reloaded by a board member at PFGA last weekend, they were a hoot. Sounded like I was using a 308, with the increased muzzle blast. No real difference on target, but we were only shooting 50 yards.
I will have to do some more experimenting with those.

OK guys, you've done it with all this talk...I've gotta' go find myself another "Tudda-tudda" now. :p Man, I just love this place! What a supportive crew! Sort of a "Gunaholics Enthusiast Group".

Jeff. :D

Are premium bullets like Partitions really needed for a 30/30?
I was wondering the same thing after droping 1000 or so lyman 173's in a bucket of water, and they sure look better in the case than any factory bullet out there, well that barnes sure looks cool also. But you know premium bullet are designed to work well, and nosler and barnes make bullets that work at those 30-30 velocities, and that makes me feel confident on the hunt.:)

That's the spirit Jeff :D

Ya, things were a little slow around here so I thought I'd see how many guys that watched too many John movies when they were a kid I could lure into this thread. ;) It appears to be bearing fruit....

JYC, sounds like you have a good varmit round, albeit a little loud. :D

If you haven't already, check out www.gunblast.com/30WCF.htm

There is some interesting commentary there concerning Barnes XFN hollowpoints. I have loaded some but have not had the chance to test them.

However my 150 gr Sierra Prohunter loads proved to be effective on a deer last year at 60 yds - complete double lung passs-thru one shot kill:cool: .

I've owned a Win 94, Marlin 336 and Savage 340 in .30-30. All the rifles preferred the 150 Core-Lokt and RL15. 170 Hornadys shot OK, but not as well as the CoreLokt.
That said, the best performance I've seen was a 200+ yard one-shot kill on a 200 lb whitetail. Factory 170 Remingtons. Buck piled up in 10 yards or so.
