what's your 300winmag recipe?

Oh it's OK , I lost more bullets to border guards at Niagra / bafflo than I gonne shoot at ranga in next whole year. But I just moved on and putting my energy where it's needed ++++++scouting and tracking and salt licks and building tree stands and convincing my wife that I be done this year with only one deer on the opening day and if I don't see any deer for few days then I will just quit hunting____----which worked for last couple of years and did I lie ? I don't think so,every year I quit hunting and only start going to range i\on january FIRST

My recipe is to buy several loading manuals and read them. Then try the bullet I want to use with several powders and tweak as necessary until I get the accuracy I'm looking for.

180's are the best weight for the 300 WM. 165s are better left to the '06 and 308.

I have also found H1000 to be my friend in the big 30's. My Norma mag dotes on 80 grains behind the 180 Partition/Accubond and 78.5 gr behind the 200 grain versions. Accuracy is spectacular, and velocity is right up there. I would bet that Reloder 25 and Vihtavuori N170 will turn in good results also. Eagleye.

I see there are lots of RL22 Fans in the room, I have finally weened myself off of this powder... I found it to be very sensitive to temp differentials.
H-1000 is my new go to powder.
200 Gr. Nos AB - 78 Gr. H-1000 - 100M
178 Gr. Hrn A-Max - 80 Gr. H-1000 - 100M
178 Gr. Hrn A-Max - 73 Gr. IMR 4831 - 100M

I shot these last week during some load development with my Tikka T3 300 WM HB... I only had 5 rnds of each loaded but I now have an idea what this rifle likes...

Happy Shooting

Noob question, but could I push a 180 Nosler partition rather than 178 Gr. Hrn A-Max - 80 Gr with similar results. Obviously I would workup to that load when starting out...

I don't have the data in front of me but if I remember correctly most manuals list 81 gr as max with H-1000... work up accordingly.

As far as accuracy, well I find the AB's shoot tighter groups than the partitions. If your willing to put the time in and play with different powders c.o.l's etc, you should have no problem matching the groupings of the amax's above.

In my 300 I shoot 4 different bullets and have experimented with 8-10 thus far.
The 200 gr AB's are my hunting load. The 178 & 208 gr A-max's are my target load as they are almost half the price of the AB's and finally I am playing aroung with some 190 berger vld's.

If I continue to struggle finding H-1000 powder I may have to start the whole process over with 4831 :-( Any body know where I can find some H-1000 currently in stock???
