Hello all,
I'm curious to see a list of recipes from the CGN community for their .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO ammunition. If you care to share please add to this post. Thanks for the input.

Here's an example....

Primer = Remington 9 1/2 Large Rifle
Case = once fired Winchester
Powder = 41 grains Varget
Bullet = 155 grain Berger (BC = .453)

- 44gr IMR 4895, win case, 210M, 165gr IB's
- 45gr Varget, win case, 210M, 180gr SST or IL
- 50gr Varget, win case, WLR primer, 110gr V-max

Still working on a load for 150' AB's, looking like Varget for it too...

Primer = CCI 200 Large Rifle
Case = Federal Match
Powder = 43.0 gr of Varget
Bullet = 178 A-Max
Rifle = 1-10 twist Savage.

Going to fine tune it to see if it gets any better.

46.0 Varget (still narrowing this down; somewhere between 46 and 47)
Lapua brass
CCI BR-2 primer
Amax 155
1:13 barrel

This is what I plan to test, according to others on here, I should see good results around the 46 gr load.

Hopefully I will get out next weekend and send these down range.:sniper:

Loads need to be worked up for every rifle.Pick a quality bullet,pay attention to all aspects of case preparation,sort brass by firing cycles and weight,use one make of brass,and try necksizing after initial firing(not in an autoloader though),and use an OAL of 2.800.

You will get good results with any of the following propellants,but one or more will stand out;IMR3031,IMR4895,IMR4064,H4895,Varget,BLC2,and W748.Check a current reloading manual for load data and work up from starting loads in .5 gr increments.

Varget is very good and I use it a lot,but it is no miracle powder.Many of us were doing nicely with the .308/7.62 before Varget hit the streets back in 1994-95. My personal favourite in a .308 bolt gun is Olin WC755,a very fine commercial ball powder which was sold by Tom Higginson some 12 yrs ago.There is an old saying along the lines of if your .308 won't shoot IMR4895 you either have a rifle problem or you need more practice at the bench.

My match load consists of:

41.0 gr of Varget
185 Berger LRHP
Fed 210 M
Lapua brass.

This load in my rebarreled HS will consistenley shoot under 3/8 " and will shoot under 1/4 when I do my job. Velocity is 2660 in a 27" Giallard barrel.

I have taken this load to 3/4 mile and have had great results!!!
