So within the last three months, I've had to completely disassemble and reassemble a lower and as of last night I've had to completely disassemble and reassemble an upper. Prior to this, I had only ever done detailed cleaning (who needs to knock out pins to clean?) and swapped some plastic components.

I was just wondering how far the typical AR15 owner has gone with their rifle.

disassembled and reassembled parts of the rifle- and I don't even own one - changing soon though..

Had to trouble shoot for a less than patient buddy. when he installed a one point sling mount, he failed to screw the buffer tube in far enough.. f:P:

I built my AR from stripped receivers with no previous experience or having ever even shot an AR before. If you can follow instructions it's pretty easy. I had to take my upper and barrel to someone's house to use their vice and torque wrench, but everything else I did in an evening sitting at home.

Funny, I thought this thread was going to be proficiency like "Pie plate accurate at 600 yards" or "3 mags in 12 seconds" shooting focused stuff.

Most of the AR guys I know are actually pretty sketchy about digging too deep into their rifle. Seems like anything beyond a field strip is "gunsmith work" to them.

I'm still really new to the game, but, have done a barrel swap on my upper to go from 14.5" to 18", and, have had my lower about 75% dissassembled.

A few mistakes along the way, but, now I have vice blocks and a combination tool, and a new barrel & gas tube to start building a second upper.

How many have actually "Completely" taken the thing apart, including removing the front sight taper pins!! You ain't lived until you can get those thigs out in less than 10 minutes!! LOL

I have yet to pound out a roll pin or break the staking on my castle nut... But I am going to start a build soon so I can do these things with out ruining a perfectly good rifle.

Changed out lots of parts but never took apart triggers or removed or replaced barrel. Just don't have the tools to do the real involved stuff but I can change grips, stocks, receiver pins, selector switches etc.

Where is the "I built a rifle from spare parts I had laying around" option? Haha.

That should be the "Macgyver" level.

The highest level would be "A-Team" where your're conveniently locked in a machine shop and manufacture your own parts such as uppers and lowers.

The trigger, it looks scary and daunting to take out, its pretty simple actually and really doesn't require any tools. Just something to push the pins out. ;)
