Fresh from today... not a group unfortunately, but with the help of a very skilled CGNer, he spotted me onto a perfect headshot at 900 yards with my factory Remington .338LM.
Heavy crosswinds made the wind calls.... interesting, to say the least.
I was using 270gr solid copper projectiles, and those things shoot flat... from a 200 yard zero, I only needed 22.5MOA elevation to get hits at 1065 yards. This was the first time I have fired them in this rifle... ie, no drop dope... so sighted in at 400 yards, then went to 900.
Aiming for center mass, and adjusting after watching the splash fall, the 4th shot hit the target slightly high and left of centre mass.
PERFECT... lets aim for a clean headshot now.... One quick adjustment to elevation and windage, and a last second wind call to hold 3" left for windage... BOOM..... "Hit!" ........ ......... ......... CLANG.... WHOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!
Best bit of shooting I have achieved thus far in precision rifle. Hitting a big steel gong at 900 or 1065 yards is tough, but a 900 yard headshot in heavy winds? Feck I would have never thought I was capable. Took a photo, then continued out to the far steels for more plinking... managed to hit the 1065 steel about 15 times in 25 shots, including a nice run of 5 shots in a row on steel.
It was a good day.
My hits are the copper coloured ones, as I was using solid copper projectiles.
