I had purchased a Caldwell Chronograph as I liked the option and it seemed to have ok reviews. I had a few issues with it and I was often left wondering how accurate it was. Well tonight I put a round through the middle of it (a $200 lapse of judgement) I was wondering what othersare using and what seems to be a accurate choice and what you like about them.

Thanks for your help

I just got a LAbradar to replace my Shooting Chrony . The Chrony worked well, even used it in conjunction with an Oehler to test it's accuracy and they gave the same readings, or close enough.

I think the Labradar will be really fun though. :)

Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph.

Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Accurate
-Free smart phone app

Cons:
-Sensitive enough to pick up neighbours muzzle blast on the range. Showing a low velocity or error.

got a labradar last christmas. Really like it, dead simple and fast to setup, don't need to wait for the line to be safe and lots of buttons and features, if you are into that type of stuff. The best thing is I use it each time i shoot, since it is so hassle free. You really get to see how consistent you loads are in various weather conditions. I have confirmed what the statisticians will tell you, shooting a string of 3-5 shots, is not statistically valid sample. It ain't cheap, but i would recommend.

Used an F! Chrony for years. Recently upgraded the machine to the Chrony Master. I figured what the hell why not. The machine works great. Made in Canada. Has all the features I want and then some. I use it mostly to test handgun loads. The machine is a top of line hobby machine and I believe is as good as one can expect for hobby equipment. Unless you are into commercial work I think machines of this quality are as good as any and serve the shooting community well. I don;t think the Master vesion of the Chrony is any better than the basic model other than it has some features that add to the the convenience of the user and the machine does make it easier to work with as it will calculate information for you that I used to do by hand.

Take Care

LabRadar. The most expensive unit out there, but I've used it more in the past 30 days than I have my Shooting Chrony in the past 5 years. The LabRadar is super easy and hassle free to set up.

Magnetospeed V3. It came out just as the LabRadar was announced, but not yet available. The Magnetospeed works great but DOES shift POI slightly for me. It doesn't appear to alter grouping at all. A two click tweak of the windage and elevation and I carry on with my testing.

Oehler 33 with Skyscreens updated to series 111
Running great since mid seventies . The sky screen upgrade never misses a bullet.

Labradar. Sold my Chrony that I used for decades.
Labradar is quick, accurate, no tripods to set up...
I even use it during FO matches (Not all of them of course) and I can watch load speeds, SD, all with download ability so I can match to my target strikes that I chart.
Would not be without it now.
I set it up last match between me and my friend and me we could each see our readout as we alternated shots.

I have the Shooting Chrony Alpha Master and it is a great unit with all replaceable parts. I purchased it factory direct as the are made in Toronto. Mine has taken direct hits from a 45 ACP and still works great...And yes, this can happen sometimes, especially when one of your reloading and range buddies is 70 years old with thick glasses ;)
