What's your cost to reload 9mm?

I load 147 gr Frontiers over 3.5 gr VV N320 and Federal primers

Prices have bounced around a bit, but my all in costs as I remember them are...

Bullets $100
Powder 17 (1/2 pound)
Primers 40

So $160 +/-

I have tons of brass,so I don't include it in the total, but 1F tends to go for $25-35
 
Free brass, $110/1000 plated bullets, $40/1000 primers, Univ. Clays - $16/1000rds --> 16c per round. That's after taxes and so on.

I guess nobody can beat hoochie with his 1/4 cent a round outcome :D
 
My cost is about 9.25 per box after tax

Free Brass
124 gr FMJ Bullets 115.00/1000 or 11.5 Cents ea
HS6 Powder .03/round
Primers .04/round

Thats about 60% less than buying factory ammo locally after tax and I shoot a hell of a lot more.

Plated = FMJ?
 
Hoochie that must be a typo....... 25 cents must be what you ment, not .25 cents :eek:..... If it is accurate I want the name of your supplier for FMJ bullets! :D

Reloading Cast bullets I'm looking at about $120/K including brass. About 12 cents per round.

Cactus Plains Cast Bullets $60/K
Unique Powder $35/lb so $17
Primers $40/K
Brass averaged out $3.

When I load Frontier CMJ the cost goes up $35/K to $155 per 1000 or 15.5 cents per round.

I don't bother reloading FMJ as the bullets are so much more $$$

Compare the cost of reloading to the cost of buying....... $155 to $349, a differance of $194 per 1000 rnds.

You can pay for your equipment in about 1300 rnds.......

The reason I load plated or FMJ (very little) is that I didn't want to have to deal with lube and cleaning when loading cast lead bullets.
Instead, I was looking for a cheaper powder that would allow for lower weight charges within burn rate and other specs I had in mind. Thou I like IMR 700X, 7625 and 4756 for appropriate bullet weights, I'm a little cautious as it's an inverted powder and is sensetive to outside temps. Otherwise, one can have it fairly cheap at about $22/lbs. I needa try TightGroup, it's cheap and is 'posta be decent too.
 
ya typo, sorry guys. A single primer cost more than .25cents!
25 cents, one quarter of one dollar is what I meant.

You really ought to compare your cost to reload your 9mm to the cost of buying it here:

As you can see, it is possible to simply buy reloaded ammo if you want to save $$ and professional reloaders often give credit for returned brass too. Comparing the cost of reloads you make vs reloads you buy, more fairly indicates the potential savings than comparing reloads you make vs new. This is particularly true when the new ammo is priced at retail per 50 rd box which is usually costlier than buying it by the 1000.

Don't take this as a discouragement. There are numerous benefits to loading your own ammo though penny pinching often isn't the best reason by far. If you think you're interested in shooting now, just wait till you start producing your own ammo ;).
