I've got parts coming for a long range/precision .260 Rem build. I'll be looking at 140gr bullets. What's your favorite? A-Max, SMK, Scenar, Berger?

Been working up loads for my sons 6.5-284 so far the lapua 139gn scenar and the Berger 140.5 are neck and neck, either would be fine for a match load. So far my best powder has been RL-19

Canadian F(O) champ uses Lapua 139. They have most uniform jacket and aren't over-priced. Sierra was clever in copying them, but can't match Lapua consistency.

Your barrel will be the ultimate judge as Ian said. There are a number of good 6.5 bullets and I've pretty much tried them all.
All have produced some excellent results, but in the end I have used Lapua 139 Naked Scenars.
My reason for this ,is that over a number of seasons they have provided the most consistent results in my barrels without bullet modifications (metplat trimming or repointing) (Broughton 1n8 5r)

I have had batches of 139 Scenars lab tested for consistency (Laser scanned) and as well Juenked (Vern Juenke's ICC machine) with VERY excellent results.
Availability and costs are very good and just a quick call away.
I would suggest you give them a try in your load development .

Despite my belief in Lapua, Ian and Gord offer good advice, as guns defintely vary as to what they shoot. Just received a report from a friend to whom I loaned a nice Sako M591with mew Gaillard barrel and it doesn't shoot 154 grain .30 Lapua bullets. Haven't tried other 155 bullets. A newer .308 shooter is getting .2 -.3 MOA with the same bullets, but he has a CIP spec reamer and perhaps that's the way to go, but this a little OT.

Regards,

Peter

Of course, every rifle has a preference but any of them known to be almost accurate with every load or a pain in the a$$ to get to shoot accurately, etc...

No. Peter and Gord are bang on about the Lapuas. You will not find a more consistent bullet dimensionally - or batch to batch. One of the voodoo realities of shooting is that some guns shoot some bullets better.

Lapuas and Sierras seem to be a far more seating depth tolerant bullet too.

I shoot Bergers in my 6.5-284 and they work great except they need to be in the lands.... that measurement seems to change significantly after every 70 rounds or so :( meaning i am chasing seating depth.

I have a 6.5 Krieger on order and will be trying the 140gr Nosler Custom Competition first. BC .529 SD .287 and I'm paying $73 per box of 250 bullets, lets hope they shoot.

Thanks but this is going to be a long range precision rifle for paper and steel. The Nosler Partition, although a great hunting bullet, is no going to be in the running.

Another vote for the Scenar. I had no trouble getting them to shoot in my 260AI. I was also able to get the 140gr A-maxs to shoot, but the Scenars seemed to shoot better over a broader spectrum of charge weights.
