Whats your favorite action and why??

CRF bolt, Mauser 98, Win 70, Ruger 77, and levers, Mausers because my first rifle given to me by my Dad was a BSA 98, levers just because.

I've always been attracted to lever actions and love them. Have some quality bolt actions. Not a fan of pumps for reasons unknown. Have single shots in Ruger No.1's. I am now finding myself wanting some s/a's, had a bunch in the past and still have some. This whole gun thing, once it's in your blood, there is nothing you can do about it!:D

:agree: I'm partial to levers as well.

The Mauser 98

Simple
Strong
Elegant in form and function
Aesthetically pleasing
Functionally sophisticated
Historically significant
Adaptable to a wide variety of cartridges
Easily disassembled and assembled
Lots of after-market parts
The standard by which others are judged
Etc

I love guns/rifles with outside hammers! English double guns especially. Muzzleloaders too. I think it may be because the father of a close friend had an old muzzleloader with outside hammers and let me fondle and shoot it when i was just a little kid.

Mauser 98; both large ring and commercial small ring (pre-1948 C-type broach cut/inner receiver ring). There's nothing to improve upon.

Honourable mention goes to the Sako model 85 actions. The only modern bolt action rifles I will own.

My first guns were a pump 22, and a Model 37 Ithaca 12g, that got alot of use, now pump guns seem most natural to me.. Second would be a tie between Lever and semi..

For Bolt actions when it has to be fast = a No.4 LB Lee Enfield
For Bolt actions when it has to be beautiful AND slick AND chamber a round like nothing else = a Mannlicher Schoenauer (accurate too)
For Bolt actions that just have to be slick = any of the SL, L , M Steyr's or a Sauer/Colt 90 (all very accurate)

For Lever actions when you want strength and smooth action and classic style = a Winchester Model 71 (or 1886) .. there is something special about game shot with a .348W - I don't know what it is..
For Lever actions elegance and strength = Savage 99

For Pumps = short list - a Remington Model 7600 or 6 (they cant be beat - which is why no one else makes one)

For Auto's = Voere 2185 because it is strong and has match accuracy out of the box

For Single Shots pure elegance = Ruger No.1 (the model with the sights) just "barely" better looking than a B78

i love my 77's but have always dreamed of owning a sako L578 in .308. a friend a had one and it was smooth. My zkw 465 .22 hornet is pretty slick too.. I love bolt guns
