whats your favorite bran of optics.

Solid scope with good, maybe not the best, but good optics and can take a beating(for a scope)...

...Bushnell 4200 6-24X40 - Semi-Target Turrets, Parallax Adj and mil dot reticle.

My Idea of a "Timex" scope, doesn't cost much, good for hunting or target, performs flawlessly and just keeps on ticking.

Leupolds are great but for something with approximately the same features, a little pricey imho and I'm sure things like Zeiss, Swarovski, etc are absolutely brilliant scopes but the price is totally ridiculous.

I have the same scope on a Husky 9000. Great scope. Nice and light compared to the competion.
 
For Bino's the best for the money I have found MINOX

As Gate said earlier - durability and compact size trumps optical quality in a hunting scope.The Burris Scout on my .375 is getting tired, but no one seems to make the scope I want to replace it. Not even US Optics would bite when I put the suggestion to them.

The features I am after are; a one piece 1" tube (I have no preference between steel and aluminum), intermediate eye relief, etched post reticle, and low profile turrets like those on my 6X Kahles sniper. Who ever comes out with that outfit, at any price, will be my favorite maker - but I'm not holding my breath. I saw a scope in an old Lynx Optics add which looked like it might of been just the thing, but that scope is not included on their current web site.

All in all, I own (and have owned) more Leupold scopes than any other - and I have only seen one a 6.5-20X which did not live up to their reputation, although I have no experience with the Rifleman Series.
 
I heard someone say once that one should spend the same amount on a scope as they did on their rifle. That being said there is a lot of good glass out there these days. In the mid range: the Leupold vxIII's, Leupold fixed power scopes, and Bushnell 4200's. In the upper range there are S&B, Swarovski, Nightforce, Zeiss, etc... And there are many more good brands mentioned in this thread.

I would look through as many as you can with a mind to eye relief, weight, and clarity. Then buy the best one you can afford and put the best rings you can afford under it.

I have gone to Leupolds on every rifle I own, great repair service if ever needed. I would say the best buy is the VXII series, but if you can afford it I just picked up a VXIII 4.5x14x40 and they are a step up for sure.
 
I have a preference for Burris Fullfield II's, though the 3200 - 4200 are nice as well. Just that the Bushnells cost more is the only reason I prefer Burris. I'd spend some money with Leopold the day they get rid of that ugly gold ring on all of their scopes. I don't like gold anything unless it's white gold. For what ever personal reason it just looks cheap to me.
 
I have a 3200 and I think its a good value for the money. (student!)

but you dont want a bushnell. My next choice of scope is going to be either a Nikon, Leuppy or a Burris I think.
 
I have Bushnells on two rifles, Burris on another. Very happy with both. Would like to upgrade to Luepolds one day, but I have a few more rifles on my wish list first.

Maybe he used a rifle topped with a Leupold scope to shoot that black/grizzly bear cross that he cant seem to find pics of.
