I like all forms of hunting, but it's really hard to beat, a stalk on an unseen quarry in the whitetail woods. Sometimes they flush like a grouse from right under your feet, They can bound or walk almost silently past, or sometimes they come crashing through the bush with all the grace of a frieght train, and sometimes they just majically appear standing there. Sometimes their arrival is anounced by the music of the hounds in chase, it's a wonderful experience.

You forgot Caribou...& bunnies (snowshoe hare, arctic hare and cottontails)...guess you could say they're under upland game, but I always consider grouse/partridge/pheasant, etc... more upland than the furry critters!

Toss up for me between Woodland Caribou and Moose. Also would like to take a crack at an Alaskan-Yukon Moose one of these days! :D

Sorry, forgot you guys up north that like to hunt caribou and snowshoe hares. I also didn't add antelope and all the other goats

Cheers!!

Whatever season is about to open is my favorite. I'll be heading out at 4am in a few short hours to wade knee deep in a stinking swamp, and sit over some decoys, and you'll be hard pressed to find a happier person out there at that moment.
Can't wait to sit on stand with my crossbow next weekend, and then with my rifle in Nov.

Ruffed grouse. The season opens here tomorrow and I'll be hitting our bushlot around 10am. I've flushed a few while walking the dogs so the prospects are looking good. There are still many leaves on the trees so early season hunting isn't usually that successful but I haven't missed an opening day in some years even if it's just for a walk in the woods with a shotgun.

I'm with Claybuster on this one.Took this grouse bird this morning (opening day here)Hope this is an indication of what the rest of the year will be like.Dogs were working pretty good today.

Hey boney:

Congrats. It was a better opener for you than for me. Heard a few flushes but didn't get a shot.

Good lookin' dogs!

I have hunted whitetails faithfully since I was old enough to get my liscence. So I have to say that's my favourate. Sixteen. Actually before that but we are not supposed to talk about illegal stuff on CGN so I won't. I hunted moose in college for a couple of years but haven't done it since. This year will be my first time since then. I will be 32 this year and feel like I haven't had very many "BIG" hunts. All of mine have been great!! But I still would like an adventure type hunt. Like Doug has done with his mule hunt this year. I've investagated Caribou hunting in Quebec. I would love to do that but the bank will only give me a limited number of mortgages. LOL. Anyway I don't mean to ramble on to much. If I could find away to do a less expensive Caribou, Elk, Moose whatever type hunt I would love to do it in a heartbeat!

Dave.
