I'll get flaked for this maby and there is no need in a photo.

But my savage axis .308

Reason why, it's accurate enough. Typical hunting shot is usually in 100y. Biggest thing is its light weight. Can carry it all day. For years I would hunt with a wood stock gun or even a heavy barrel target type gun. Good for still hunting but not so much for spot n stalk.

Last year was my first yr with the axis and it's now going to be my go to hunting gun.

Have you ever shot the yellow boy or big boy from Henry rifles, I'm considering one of them in 44 mag, only excellent reviews for that gun

Does anyone hunt with the 30-06 garand? Is it any good for hunting,ie well rounded and versatile?

Current favourite is my Brno 21H 7x64. Classic looks and handling, customized for me with an Oberndorf style straight low bolt and single trigger and 3-pos Dakota safety by Ralf Martini. The chambering is a little exotic in Canada but a standard in Europe and Africa, I like that about it too. Light, trim, powerful but easy on the shoulder and accurate. What's not to like?

I have many favorites, but the icing on the cake is my custom [Thank you, Bill Leeper] 700 Remington in 308 Norma Magnum.
Shoots tiny groups and hits hard, even way out there.
Pleasant to look at, and decent to shoot.
What more could one want?
Bottom rifle in the photo. [It now wears a Leupy 3.5-10 B&C]

For me it is my Steyr-Mannlicher Luxus in 7mm RM. It is very accurate, the build quality is fantastic, has an amazing trigger (single set) and can cleanly take all game I plan on hunting.

My favorite rifle is whatever I'm carrying at the time.

Why!? Cuz I'm hunting!!

Brno ZKK-602 .416RM and yes, it's a favorite. Arguably the single 'best' rifle I own. Barrel shortened to 23", Talley barrel band installed, glass bedded in a McMillan stock by David Henry. Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-6X.

This is the ZKK-602 before I had custom work done.

Last week I shot a medium size bear with it. It killed the bear right on its track. The bear did not move one inch. Years ago, I shot a similar size bear with 308, the bear ran 30 yard and cried loud.

Having reading Why Not?'s story of killing grizzlies with 9.3x62, I don't think I need any thing bigger than that. I will probably buy another 9.3 for my teen son.

Remington 700 BDL with SS 7-08 barrel. Lite weight, comfortable to shoot, just a handy little rifle in the bush. Weighs about 1/2 lb heavier than a Remington model 7.

I have to add on my 50 cal black powder rifle. Traditions buckstalker. It fits me great a joy to carry and just something about hunting with a single shot black powder gun that brings satisfaction to the hunt. My traditions buckstalker is the least accurate of my 4 bp rifles but it fits the best. It won't group under 2.5" at a 100 yards but its consistent at 2.5-3" for 3 shots. Good enough for whitetails
