What's your favorite hunting gun, and why?

My favorite hunting gun is a Remington model 870, Special Field in 20 ga.
With a 21" barrel, & 5-1/2 lbs & interchangable choke system, it's the best shotgun I ever had the pleasure of carrying/hunting with....

I have been using it since new in 1989.

For rabbit hunting I use my sweet little .22 LR savage....

Then later in the season when the bear, moose & deer seasons are over I will use my latest favorite, 77/357 with loaded down ammo....

I'd say my Wingmaster 12 gauge and my Rem 7600 in 30.06.
I like the pump for quick follow-up shots, and since I also use a pump .22, the crossover of actions is good.
I vary a bit, but those are my main hunting guns.:)

Mine would have to be a Win model 88 in 308,or a Benelli R1 in 270 wsm.Hoping to get into the Browning mood shortly,as I have a new bar to try out.

Right now I would have to say my Remmy 700LSS in .338 RUM. It has been a faithful all-arounder. Nothing is written in stone though. I would love a nice 1895 someday. Used to really like toting a .444 in the field too.

Simply Awesome... this will be my first year hunting... doing some self mentoring sorta speak and this weekend I'll start my scouting, have a little peice of crown land picked out and going to visit her this weekend and see what she's hiding... As of now all I have is a shotgun but with this thread a lot of opitions to check out when it comes time to buy my rifle in a few months.. thanks for the thread

I love many of my firearms, but right now it is the Cooper model 52 Classic chambered in the 280 Ackley Improved. It shoots just as flat as a 7mm remington magnum but dosen't kick like one. Batting 1000 on one shot kills.
2011 whitetail buck.

Like many here pickiing 1 in too hard. The guns that get out most are; Baikal auto 12 ga,just a plain waterfowler; Ruger 77 HB varmit in 280 for big game, it's heavy but shoots great; a Rem 700 sps varmit in 243 for coyotes; and the 22 I use most is a Rem 541s. These are all sort of run of the mill but work the way I want. All shoot strait & kill well(even if it's only paper :) )

My all time favorite upland and skeet gun, '59 (born same year as me) Browning Superposed Lightning RKLT 26 1/2" bbls choked skt-skt. It just plain fits me and I hit very well with it. Love it for Ruffed Grouse and ain't no slouch on the Ringnecks !

Next pick The 20 or .410 Super or the 20 BSS Sporter, depends on the day or mood.

A 12 ga. shotgun, there isn't anything in North America you can't kill with it. From birds with bird shot to the biggest of game with slugs you can take it all with one gun..........I own a few shotguns, to date this is my most recent acquisition. A Maxus, 3.5" Chamber, 26" Barrel. Without a doubt the softest shooting autoloader I have ever shot.

Right now my Cooper jackson game in 338-06 fits perfect and shoots more accurate than me pretty too what's not to like

On the rifle side, my M77 Tang Safety in .308 (shown with a Leupold 2-7). Not the prettiest gun, but it fits me to a T, and is a tack driver. I cant really ask any more of a rifle.

On the shotgun side, my 870 Wingmaster. I can choose any choke i want, or swap put barrels to a slug barrel. Its my baby!

My 1952 Winchester model 70 in .270. It hits everything I point it at and groups better than i can shoot it. For a shotgun it's my single shot rem 802 12 g. Reliable and accurate.
