whats your favorite reticle?

and why?

I bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 because it's my first scope and their relatively inexpensive compared against everything else...but I find I don't like the reticle. I'll play with it some more to see how it goes....but I can definitely seeing myself go Vortex or Luepold in the near future with a much nicer reticle to play with.

Leupold fine duplex. It's become the most popular reticle in the world for a reason. Of course, being exclusively a paper target shooter, I'm biased.

The mildot and rangefinding reticles must be great if you shoot at people, but I'm a civilian, and it's an indictable offence to even point a firearm at a person....

I like the German No. 4 and the post and crosshair. I find them easier than others to set up a shot quickly when hunting.

(I accept Satain's assessment that a mil-dot reticle is worth two cents and that he can't use any other.)

Depends on the context of use.....Target? Hunting? Two-way range?

From a "hunting" perspective:

Short range/bush/dogging: 1X Circle dot (eotech/holosight/DMS1/Prismatic)
Medium range/close watch with the potential for snap shooting: 1-4X Heavy duplex
Long range: Fine duplex/target dot/B&C

My favorite all round is the trijicon chevron - the design precludes the need for a horizontal stadia

Long Range Hunting - NP-R1 or TMR - not a mildot fan

I don't know what they call it, but the reticle looks like a "T". For me I find it visually less distracting and allows me to aim quickly.

I think you are describing what is most commonly called "post and crosshair" - a horizontal crosshair intersecting the top of a vertical that extends from the bottom to the centre of the picture. Often the vertical is distinctly thicker than the horizontal.

You're not only a civilian but one that does not understand what mildot reticles are for.

Leupold B&C works perfect for long range on Hubby's 300 Ultra.

I like post & crosswire up close and mildot for all around. Once you learn the caliber it's second nature to make hits way way out there.

I prefer the range finding reticles like the burris fullfield 2 comes with and the Leupold varmint and B&C rangefinding reticles. Easy at all distances.

I like the plain old Duplex.

Had a Shepherd scope a few years ago. Sold it before I shot the rifle it was on, way too busy for me.

But I'm mostly a hunter, not a Tacticool shooter.
