What's your go to 22lr ammo?

I agree 100 % . Finally someone whos actually shot and accuracy tested. No Stingers or Maxi Mags or whatever other BS ammo you think is accurate. Here we go again though into accurate and what it is. Well if ur gun wont shoot a ragged one hole group at fifty yards, well ur needin a nmew gun or some shootin lessons! Not jokin. The 22 rimfire is one of the most accurate firearms made for short range, period. That's a fact Jack. Hyper velocity copper plated bullets are not accurate. PERIOD, If you persist to think they are , you don't know what real accuracy is. This is not a debateable subject by anybody with any knowledge of rimfire accuracy. If this post pisses people off and I get a myriad of my gun shoots dime groups with CCI Stingers at 100 yards or even 75 yards well get off the cannabis gummies or whatever else is putting you in that alternate reality. Its not really happening. Well maybe if like Clint so eloquently put it, A LEGEND IN UR OWN MIND.

Holy crap, you made me laugh out loud.

But I think a lot of people just plink or shoot at shorter ranges so for them, bulk HV is just fine and pretty cheap. In other words, maybe they don't take accuracy as seriously as an experienced shooter would. Personally I'm in the short range camp right now, but I'm getting convinced to see what good SV ammo will do.

Cheers,
Neil

Picked up a brick to CCI SV and Blazer if for nothing else it is cheap for breaking in barrels.
The Blazer out of my 10/22 (under 2" for 10 shots) was more accurate at 100 yards than from by CZ 455 American.
Last week the 455 was under an inch at 100 (.625") so changed lot number last night an it stunk.

As OP is not looking for target ammo but more plinking stuff to work in a semi. He is not trying to get the 1/2” club. HV hit harder on gophers and bottles of coloured water. Mini mags can be bought at Wally World and CT, not so with center x. Cheapest stuff will work in most semi and fine for clays hanging on trees.

Recently picked up a new semi auto 22 and have noticed there is a wide range of 22lr available, just wondering what everyone's favourite "everyday" ammo is? Not necessarily looking for specialty target loads to compete with, just looking for a decent balance of quality and price.

I like Blazers in general. You can get them pretty cheap and in my Marlins, they cycle very well - 1 failure of some kind every 150 round or so. I find them pretty darn accurate as well.

That said, it's being pointed out in this thread and others that HV ammo is inherently -not- as accurate as SV ammo. From what I read, it's because that when the bullet slows and crosses below the speed of sound, it loses accuracy. I can't explain the physics behind it, but maybe someone who really understands this could explain.

I'm pretty new to shooting, so I'm learning as I go. I'll test out CCI SV and see how it goes. I'm curious what my point blank range will be with SV vs HV. I'll have to check that out.

EDIT:
I just checked; with a 50 yard zero and SV ammo, the bullet will be within 1" of where you aim, out to 60 yards. HV lets you push that out 65 yards. It's so small of a difference, that if the SV ammo really does give better accuracy, and if your rifle cycles it, there's no reason to use HV, in my opinion.

EDIT:
Check out this video for an intro on how going subsonic affects a bullet.

Another vote for CCI std.velocity. Reliably cycles my jw20 every time and is accurate in the bolt gun too. However i have found it won't run at all in my cousins savage 64 or his gsg16, but I'm going to chalk it up at least in part to his cleaning habits (or lack there of).

Mini-mags generally, but I have a few bricks of 40gr American Eagle, so that's the go-to for now. I think I've got 1 525-pack of Mini-mags in the back of the safe if I want to hunt, those are just my favourite.

It was winchester wildcats but I switched to the federal BYOB because they are cheaper. The cooey 60 could care less and just does well with everything

CCI Standard Velocity comes in paper boxes of 50 and plastic trays of 100.
The Plastic Trays come from the Idaho plant and the paper box is manufactured in Nebraska under contract by Federal.
The paper box appears very similar to the new Hornady.
One rifle might like one over the other.
Having tried both, this opinion is generally shared by users within Rimfire Central.
There is a video showing the Idaho plant producing 4,000,000 rounds per day.
The lot numbers on either product means nothing other than to the manufacturer.
What you buy one month may have no relationship to your next purchase.
Virtually every American made product is similar as all are produced in bulk.
While the match ammo from Europe will have lot numbers, the lot numbers will only be specific to that lot number.
Eley match grade are produced in quantities of 30,000 to 35,000 rounds. When the billet of lead wire runs out on a particular run that is the end of that lot.
A lot consists of 6 or 7 cases. Unless your supplier took the entire lot it may not be duplicated from any other supplier.
It is then tested and depending on the quality determined through their four test rifles it will be branded as Tenex or Match and previously the poorest quality was TEAM.
The Remington Eley Match was boxed for Remington under contract. I was able to test four different lots and my rifle liked one with a velocity of 1062 fps.
I currently have over 5000 rounds of that lot number and when it is gone the testing process starts over again.

Depending on which rifle but for punching paper, Lapua Center-X, SK Rifle Match and SK Standard Plus.
For shooting gophers, CCI Mini Mags.

Lol, settle down. I don't shoot .22 with the intention of literally driving tacks, not saying stinger is super accurate either, it's just my go-to choice. Mostly cause I can almost feel the kick and actually notice the shot, without ears on. It's serves the purpose of simulating a more expensive round.
Cheers.

My 10/22 likes any copper plated ammo. Last nov at a Racegun shoot we found out that our 10/22 would jam/stove pipe/ failure to eject when using any wax coated bullet. Luckily I had some bulk 36gr hollow point copper plated stuf and those cycled everyone 10/22 and one Remington 597 the best.

Then again, we weren't shooting for sub moa group at 100m , all target were less than 35 yards

My marlin 60 will eat any ammo reliably I run through it but if im going for groups on paper, CCI standard velocity which is the most accurate ammo I've ever tried in it.
For hunting, I use CCI mini mags.
