I would like to know from you guys that hunt Canada Geese over decoys, what is the load you use of your preference of 3 inch magnum steelshot?
1 1/8, 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 oz. of shot? and what shot size you prefer?

3" mag. BBs, fastest velocity i can find, but i still limit my shots to inside 40yds. not like the good old days with lead BBs and 60yd. shots.

I have some TM and Hevi Shot left over from when it wasn't too outrageously priced. Not sure what I will use when I run out so I will watch this thread closely.
I am a fimr believer in pellet count, so I may end up with #2s or something but fast and with the most pellets available, might even go 3.5"

I have been using #6s for ducks and I am quite impressed within 40yds!!!

I like 3 inch #2's until they start to get substantial fat on them, then I switch to 3 inch BB's. Hunting with deke's is great, let their feet just about touch the ground or water, then have at it. I always aim for the head, if they are close you get a CNS kill, or if a little further out, a good body shot, or broken wing. If your lucky, you might even get another round or 2 in the gun before the rest bugger off. I also make sure I use anything over 1550 fps, with steel, speed kills! Kent makes a good shell at a reasonable price.

Gonna have to try #6's this year, I have had good results with #4's for ducks.

BBB and # 2 2 3/4 or 3". I tried tungsten matrix by kent in #5 last year and even on canada geese the range was better than any lead i ever shot. The problem is the price!!!Bass pro in Vaughn was $29.95 for a box of ten.If i could just get my ex wife to pay for them , she lives close to Vaughn

Kent Impact - 12g. 2-3/4" x1-3/8 oz x 1's.

If I were to use steel, it would be Kent's Fasteel - 12g. 3" x 1-3/8 oz x BB's,
and am somewhat tempted to give Federal's 3" Black Cloud load a try.

I was gonna post that I use Kent tungsten matrix for geese, but the poster was looking for steel info. That said there is a product from Federal called Black Cloud which we tried last year which worked well, kills em doesn't wound them. Hevi shot also make Hevi Steel which I haven't tried yet but is supposed to be a great steel goose load. Both of these products are expensive relative to Fasteel, $25.00 for Black Cloud and $37.00 for Hevi Steel, each boxes of 25 shells. FS

Kent fasteel works real good for me. Use the 1 1/4 ounce load, not so much the 1 3/8, cuz as mentioned before speed kills. I use BB's. I have patterned the Kent and the Winchester expert, they patterned VERY nicely. Remington was horrible, as with a couple other ppl I had patterned with. I shoot Kent cuz it seems to be a better built shell, so to speak! I think everyone I hunt with will shoots the 1400 fps stuff. I myself shoot the 3 1/2 inch, 1 3/8 stuff at 1550 fps, but u only asked for 3 inch!

Back when I was the Kent rep I bought some Wins, Rems ,and fed steel shells and took them apart to check out the QUALITY of their components, quite surprising what you will find that some companies classify as a wad?? Powders were all different and the quality of the pellets was enlightening to say the least.FS

I don't use 3" any more, no need. I use Kent Faststeel 2-3/4" 1550 FPS 1-1/16 oz. #1s. Modified choke tube. That load kills geese very dead, and I hit them better when I'm not getting kicked out from under my tuque! I typically average right around 50% - one bird for two shots, including any "finishing" shots. I consider that adequate performance.

Winchester X-pert, 3", 1-1/8oz BB @1550 FPS gives excellent patterns from my gun. Federal steel shok and Kent Fasteel pattern almost as well as the X-perts. I got a wierd diamond shaped pattern with Remmington though. Whatever you decide to go with, try it on paper first to make sure it patterns well in YOUR gun. What works well in your buddies gun may not work well in yours, even if they are the same make model etc.

I use whatever cheap stuff I can get from Canadian Tire. Usually stick with 3" BB's, won't pay more than $17 or 18 a box. All my goose hunting spots have 20 yards or less shooting, don't see the need to spend an arm and a leg on shells. Tried the Black Cloud last fall for ducks, did just aswell with Xperts or Dryloks. I'm a firm believer in trying to get the birds in just a little closer to ensure one shot kills over and over. Before I get too off track, I think my loads are around 1 1/8 at 1550 fps.
