What's your "go to" upland gun and cartridge?

Arizaga sxs box lock f/cyl 25.5" barrels and English stock as of late
Baikal ij58 sxs gets used for tough thick bush or crappy weather
On nice days I use a gorgeous Italian sxs box lock

However this year saw majority of my grouse with a 45/70 and 25/06

Mostly my CZ partridge (SxS) in 28 gauge, IC and Mod chokes, loaded with whatever I have in 7 1/2 shot, or #8 if I've run out.

I have a couple more SxS coming in the mail, so may try them out under nice conditions. I don't worry about scratching up the CZ.
 
My go to 20 gauge load for ruffed and blue grouse was a 3" 1 1/8oz #6 with copper coated lead pellets. My go to load for my 12 gauge for also ruffed and blue grouse is a 2 3/4" 1 1/8oz #6 with copper coated lead pellets.

 
I've got a Beretta Gold 686 Sporting...I go with an open choked and a full choked barrel, and #7 1/2 low brass shells for the open and #6 high brass shells for the full choke.
I find the over-under with two barrels gives you perfect versatility for close up or longer range birds.
 
Ruger 10-22, 30 round mag. no buckshot in the teeth while you are eating, numerous follow up shots. When you have a tree full of ruffed grouse always start shooting from the bottom to the top of the tree so you don't spook the rest of them. if you are lucky enough to have a good skeet shooter riding with you then he cleans up some of the flyers with the shotgun when they finally realize what is going on. It's a riot.

Do you shoot them in the head/neck. Grouse body shot with a .22 have a bad habit of flying off to die.

Yeah, that's not really upland hunting. I'm guessing you shoot ducks on the water as well.
