What's your 'I never thought I'd own' gun?

AR-15.
I was always the walnut stock guy.
I thought AR's were silly.......until I held one. They are popular for a reason and the upgrades and customizing makes them very unique and fun to tinker with.

i was the same way- but i was an m14 guy until we thought the soviets were coming over the top, and it made sense to have the same gun as the average gi

44 magnum revolver , then my buddy called and asked if I'd be interested in his , I thought what the hell .... Now I have to find a ruger new model in 357 ... all good fun

Anything polymer ......
...picked up a brandnew black G17 Gen3 at the post office yesterday and pounded 150 rnds today.
It's a keeper!

I'm in the Glock camp as well. One day I shot a friend's G17 and was impressed enough by it that I bought a G17 and G21. I sold the G21 to help fund another purchase but I can't see myself selling the G17.

I guess I'll tell my story:

I wanted to hate Glock. I really did. They were too clichéd... too much "fanboyism" surrounding them. My first handgun was a Walther P99. My second was a Walther P22. My third was an HK USP variant 1. All three of those were within a week of each other.

I love shooting all of them. The P99 is a little snappy but is a great gun with a lot of features. I love my P22 also. The USP is pretty neat. Fits my hand nicely and is a joy to shoot.

I went on those three for the first few months. I met up with a family member on a trip to the range one day. He was sporting his brand spankin' new Glock 17. He ventilated a couple of targets and asked me if I'd like to try. I didn't want to like Glocks but having never fired one, I at least wanted to try it.

Now bear in mind... this is a completely stock G17 with night sights. (He's a cop so wanted to get as close to the issued G22 as possible.) The stock G17 has a 5.5lb trigger pull and stock springs.

We put the target, an OPC (Ontario Police College) standard issue silhouette target, at 21 feet - again... a standard training distance and I loaded up a 10 round mag. (Damn thumbs - I need pinned mags!)

My first time ever shooting a Glock... I fired at a rate of roughly 1 round per second and put all 10 rounds in centre mass. 8 of them were in a 1.5" group, the ninth was within 2" and the tenth was a flier at 3.5". I was in awe.

I loaded up another mag and did basically the same thing with head shots. I kept that target and have it pinned on my reloading room wall to this day.

I went home that night and ordered a G17 and it has been my main competition gun since then. I've modded mine a fair bit. Extended controls, 3.5lb connector, Glockmeister spring, guide rod laser (just for fun!), Williams FireSights, grip tape and a few other things. I just love it.

Here's a pic of that target. The main group in the middle is 1.5" across.

G17...

I guess I was somewhat of a target-gun-snob-blued-steel-and-walnut kind of guy, so I never thought I'd end up with a piece of tupperwear...

After 15 years or so of plinking with it, I've come to accept the fact that every body needs a utilitarian type of handgun...

Marlin 336! When I started off I was all into handguns and tactical stuff. The complete opposite from the others with their glock stories above. I was all about Glocks, and Shotguns, but mostly handguns.

My last 3 purchases - Marlin 336, Stevens 200 - .270 win, Stevens 200 - .223 rem

The last 3 times I went to the range my handguns didnt even come with me!!!!!

I just spent the last hour loading my first batch of .223 handloads, and hoping to get some half inch groups at 100m!

I got into Shooting when I was in high school in the early 80's. I would grab any gun catalog I could get my hands on and one catalog I snagged was a Norma ammunition catalog. In the pistol ammo section, between the .32 S&W long and the 9mm Parabellum was this strange bottle neck cartridge called the 7.65 Parabellum. Did some research in books (no internet back then) and found out that it was the original cartridge for Luger pistols and carbines before the 9mm was created. I thought, "who the F*** would ever want that. Besides, I was a Broomhandle fan, not a Luger fan.

Since then, I got my hands on a Broomhandle and sold it soon after. YUK!
I then lucked into a Mauser made Luger in 9mm for a great price. That Luger made me an instant convert to Lugers. Soon after, I saw my first Swiss Luger at the Montreal gun show and fell in love with the look and feel of it. Swiss Lugers are in 7.65 Para (.30 Luger)

Four years after that first encounter with that Swiss Luger I now own three of them and shoot them just about every weekend. They never jamb, wish I could say the same for my German Luger in 9. And they are super accurate, even with hard cast lead bullets. Far superior to anything I've shot in 9mm

The only problem with my Swiss Lugers is that was what gave me Swiss Flu, and I now have three K31 rifles and a Swiss Arms Classic green rifle. As well as a big void in my bank account:p;)
