What's your LONGEST connecting shot on a deer

Probably around 600 yards with a 243. From one mountain to another years before range finders. Thru the heart and he never moved a foot.
 
my longest was with my Savage Muzzleloader at around 250 yards on a mule deer in a stubble field. Ive got a 270 wsm intended for some long shots here in Sask and have never used it past 70 yards.
 
978 paces, yes paces, i counted every step (double checked, on the way back) with a 22 hornet in the eyeball. Droped before i even felt recoil.









In all seriousness, 322 on a doe with the 280. Hammered her to the snow.

I have to ask; what range was your gun was sighted in for,and how far above the deer did you shoot?

Having run the calculations for a 30-06 using a 180gr ballistic tip at 2800fps,with a 200 yards zero,the bullet would strike 203" low at 850 yards.In other words,you would have had to hold 16.9 feet above your target at that distance.

275 paces, open sights from a rest (this was about 20 yrs ago when my eyes were perfect) 1 shot from a 308 win 180 g. Shot slightly back and took out the liver, deer went about 25 yards.
 
On a white tail I think about 40 - 50 yards. Still keep day dreaming about seeing one stroll out onto the opposite side of a cut block 300 yards away just to finally give my rifle and scope the use it was intended for.
 
Longest shot

Lets seee, 225 yards down a fence line in Manitoba about 7 years ago is the longest. Maybe another 10 at 100 yards and the other 20 under 60 yards with most under 30 yards. First kill with a .45-70, 2 with .338, 5 a .30-06, lots with a .280 and most with 7m/m Rem-mag. Up close and un-noticed is the best way in my opinion.

Many years ago and way beyond my ability :(. For some of you the longest shot taken brings back fond memories. Not for me.

A small WT buck walked out in the distance perfectly broadside, took out his rear legs above the hock with the shot. I had been practicing long range but a slight cross wind was missed preparing for the shot in the heat of the moment.
Sprinting toward him I made a promise. Never again will I shoot without thinking the whole shot through. I continue to pass up shots beyond my ability.
 
2005 - 1st Mule Deer Buck. Borrowed 30-06 shooting factory 165gr, 430ish yards.
2006 - 1st 5x5 White-Tail(160ish gross) Shot with my 300WM(26" bbl)running 190gr Boat-tail Soft Points(3200fps)440-450yds.
Longest shot on a gopher was 430yds (took 3 shots to connect)55gr SXSP.

And really, who gives a phuck what 'measured' the distance. Bushnell rangefinders will pick up 500m just as well as Leica's will.

150m on a fawn. I have never understood why people have to shoot deer from more than 200m. They're not all that hard to sneak up on....

My true longest was 175m on a big bull moose with my old iron sighted 303brit at 12yrs of age. First and longest. It's never occurred to me to shoot more than 200m. If they're that far away, I can get closer.

Oh and the Bushnell=Leica comment shows you r limited experience. No they don`t, I know. I`ve owned both.

I've shot deer from 30 steps with a pointy stick, to two Whitetails and a Mule buck from 410-444yds. I used a .270 WCF with a 130gr Sierra, a .338 WM with 210 TSX, and a 300 WSM with a 168 TSX. All except the first were ranged, and the first one was a few steps past four electrical poles away in a coulee bottom field. My most memorable was a smallish Mule buck at 60 yds. He was my first.
 
BS. I've used bushnell and leica rangefinders too dingdong. My bushnell picked up a moose at 550m faster than my buddy's leica, which was actually OUT by 15m, as ranged by a GPS after he shot it (NOT from 550m).

It's classic "I'm tougher and cooler than you are" hunter bull#### to exaggerate #### and make yourself seem cool for taking long shots. The guys who have never shot over 200m get WAY more of my respect than the idiots who will fire a clip off at 3, 4 and 500m. Totally pointless.

That is NOT to say that everyone who shoots long distance is dumb, just the guys that brag about it. I am quite sure eagleye could pick off a moose if it was standing broadside on the moon :D
