840 yards with 30/06. took two steps and dropped. verified with gps.

And really, who gives a phuck what 'measured' the distance. Bushnell rangefinders will pick up 500m just as well as Leica's will.
150m on a fawn. I have never understood why people have to shoot deer from more than 200m. They're not all that hard to sneak up on....
My true longest was 175m on a big bull moose with my old iron sighted 303brit at 12yrs of age. First and longest. It's never occurred to me to shoot more than 200m. If they're that far away, I can get closer.
I have to ask; what range was your gun was sighted in for,and how far above the deer did you shoot?
Having run the calculations for a 30-06 using a 180gr ballistic tip at 2800fps,with a 200 yards zero,the bullet would strike 203" low at 850 yards.In other words,you would have had to hold 16.9 feet above your target at that distance.
