Mine was 350 yards give or take a few yards. The rifle was a .270 Brno with Winchester 130 grain Silvertip's.:) One shot in the boiler room, it took about a minute for the big critter to realize he wasn't going anywhere and laid down.

My longest shot on moose was a lasered 386 yards with my Lieca range finder. He shouldn't have been mine, he came out closer to my buddy Boyd, but buddy had scope mount problems and bull winkle ended up swimming my way. I had to take the shot across a bay when he started heading back to shore. The rifle was a Sako TRG-S in .338 Lapua mag., loaded with 250 grain Hornady's on top of 96 grains of H-1000. One shot, and it dropped him on the spot. We sure had some beautiful weather last fall when I took this guy.

Nice critter, he didn't have a chance with that Lapua on his trail. The rack on mine was 57 & 3/4 green, toughest eating Goodyear moose ever. I don't shoot for racks anymore as the smaller spike forks are a hell of a lot tastier and tender.:)

Nearly 58 inches, awesome moose, mine wasn't that big, a little over 45 inches. He's pretty tasty, not like some of those old tough buggers I've chewed on. We get a lot of the smaller forks, and first set of paddle types on the lake we hunt. There's a fair few cows that inhabit that area and so their male off spring kick around for a year or two, before the bigger boys chase them off. We end up taking at least one or two of the forks each year.........if we're lucky:D

Here's Boyd with one of those fork horns. He got his scope problem worked out and took this tasty fella. Also a much easier shot too, 125 yards. :D

130 yards with a 416 rem mag, 350 grain Speer magtip

worked pretty good. my other two moose were shot at about 110 paces

All my moose so far have been under 150 yards. Thats the biggest reason why I picked up a 338/08 I just don't need to worry about really long shots where we hunt.

My longest shot on a moose was 250 yards, which is much closer than with most animals.I find moose are not overly wary and it is much easier to get close to them than most other animals.

About 400yards. He was across a small lake, I didn't have anything to lean on but this was one of those rare occasions where the rifle came up, settled and felt good so I pulled the trigger and he stumbled and rolled over.

300Whtby and I put the X hairs on his hump. Split the heart!

.30-06 Weatherby Vanguard, 360 yds as measured by a Bushnell 800 Yardage Pro, using Federal Classic 180 gr.
I watched a buddy take a nice cow at 475 yds with his Model 70 in .338WM while I watched (with envy) through my field glasses.
I now have my own .338WM for moose:D

I think closest shot is more interesting!! :)

I shot a 41" bull one time at 10 FEET!!

It was so close I simply held my .338 at waist height and swung the rifle on him and fired as he ran by me!!

My "long" shot was 280 yards, but there's nothing interesting about that...

My longest was about 250 yards across an alfalfa field on a yearling spike bull. It was the last day of the season and I was using my (then new) .30-06 and Federal 165gr PSP (red box) factory loads.

My first moose (I was 17 yrs old) was taken at 435 yrds with a 7mm Rem Mag. 175 grain Nosler Partitions and two shots later had him down. First shot hit him in the boiler room, but he just stood there, I thought I missed him. Second shot broke the spine.

Intersting topic 303. Kinda funny, seems like an ethics question to me

You seem to be very interested in the hunting ethics of bear hunters across our great country. So what exactly are your swamp donkey hunting ethics? And what type of shot on a moose is considered ethical in your opinion?

Is this another loaded question? Just curious :D
