Just picked up a new tikka 30-06.

What ammo does yours like for deer and for moose?

I ask for suggestions because for the 06 theres a massive amount for choice.

thanks in advance

Any good quality 180gr nullet will do. Mine likes both the nosler partition and the Hornady interbond. Have not shot a 180 gr bullet that it does not like. Great gun and enjoy

I don't own a Tikka, but have two friends who do in 30.06. I prefer 180s in my .06, these guys both like 165s. Each to their own, both rounds have good take down power for moose. 180s hit a little harder, 165s got a bit more range and flatter trajectory for long shots if you need them.

Used one for many years and my deer loads had 150 or 165 gr. bullets. Moose got 180 gr. You might be able to use 165`s on most game now as bullet design has changed a lot since i used one.

I use a 200gr partition in mine kicks harder than my buddys model70 300 winmag with the same bullet. I've always had good luck with noslers in my 30-06 125gr to 200gr

thanks for the feedback. Before I posted I should have wrote I picked up a box of federal power shock and a box of fusion.. both in 150 gr . I thouroughly enjoy figuring out what a new gun likes lol

I will use the 180's for moose.. thanks for the feedback.

Which Tikka did you get, my Tikka T3 SS in .30-06 likes the Federal 165 gr Gameking.

T3 synthetic stock blued barrel...

I got it to use as a primary hunting rifle in northen AB.. Got the syn stock to make it easier to swallow when I bump it around in the bush lol..

I wish I got the SS barrel, but I bought it at a gun show and they didn't have any SS left. But it was too good of a deal to pass up since it was a gun show.

I've played with different bullets and powders and have found my rifle likes 180 gr bullets most.

150gr fbsp
165gr btsp interlock
165 tsx
180gr tsx
180 interbond
180 accubond

I settled for 180 Accubonds w/ H4350, although Interbonds gave similar results.

Nothing wrong with the Blued barrel, I have a few. You can get a Limbsaver recoil pad, much better then the factory pad. Besides Fed. Gameking, Norma Ammo also shoots good in all my Tikka's.

the recoil doesn't bother me at all with it. But we'll see when I take it to the range and try to put a couple boxes through it.

You don't say what part of the country your deer hunting is done in, but I loaded some 130 gr TTSXs at a mild 2600 fps for my nephew in BC, and he killed both whitetail and mule deer with them; his shots were well under 200 yards and both were bang flops. This bullet can be driven to 3200 or better from your '06, although there seems to be little point unless you need longer reach, but with a 200 yard zero the drop at 300 is about a foot, where the 300 yard drop at full speed is 8".

HaHa. Thats when you wished you had it. For what they cost, they make rifle so much more enjoyable to shoot on the bench. Shooting one shot at game, a steel plate works fine. ;)

Sold mine to my hunting buddy, but it eats pretty much everything with gusto. Latest load is 200 gr Sierra Game King in front of 56.0 gr RL22, at 2,763 fps. Really hurts at both ends. :D
