hey guys,

it seems that more and more people are using wheel bearing grease on their weapons. just wondering what kind of grease are people using? i am trying to find something that's clear but so far no luck. if you know of a place that has clear coloured grease let us know!

I use Lucas.

You can get it at Crappy Tire. It's a nice bright blue so you can see where it is and where it isn't.

High temp grease is better if you are going to be shooting ALLOT. Otherwise any bearing grease will do.

i personally wouldnt use wheel bearing grease, it attracts and holds dirt like a mofo.

Where exactly are they being used?

I could see white lithium grease, its a little thinner and non pretrolium based.

where to get the slide glide?

Brian Enos .com

I use it on the hammer strut/spring..under the barrel where it locks up,..guide rod and spring, slide rails....etc.. use it sparingly. A little goes a long way. Plus it is a pinkish color,..you can tell where you put it, and it wipes off pretty easily.

I use waterproof high temp wheel bearing grease, the kind that's recomended for boat trailers, oh yeah and I strip and clean my pistols after every trip to the range.

I am using SLide Glide Lite on all my firearms.
I've heard good things about Slide Glide, but Brian Enos' website seems a little sketchy. By his own admission, he is a layman who does not really understand the scientific aspect of lubrication, yet he somehow managed to invent this ultimate gun grease. I don't think so. the skeptic in me suspects that he's just packaging some sort of automotive/industrial/multipurpose grease in small containers and marking them up about 1000%.

Personally, I've had good result using Mobil-1 synthetic lithium grease.

oohhh,..my friend- my friend - my friend. There is so much more to Mr. Enos than a tub of grease. His book is amazing. He is not in the least bit sketchy. All of the top shooters in Canada (IPSC) have probably read his book. I have experimented with different types of gun grease and oil,..this stuff is the best.

I'm sure Enos is a good shooter, but is he a good chemist? Taken form his own website:

Will Slide-Glide attract dust or dirt?

Here's my layman's theory: The key word is "insulates." The Glide insulates everything it touches - including dust or dirt. So if there are any dirt particles in the grease, the Glide insulates them from contacting the gun. I'm not an engineer, so I know that's not very scientific. It's just my theory based on what I have observed over a long period of time.

So the best explanation Enos can provide as to how his product works is an unscientific "layman's theory"? If he does not understand the science behind it, how did he formulate this product in the first place?

I beleive if you read a little farther on Mr Enos' site you will see he says he found this grease after lots of trial and error and its what worked best for him. I think he may be charging a high markup but for a few extra bucks I'm willing to pay instead of spending years finding the right lube. I too use slide glide lite - just got some and only fired a few times but the gun seems to run smoother (1911).
Also another thumbs up for his book.
