Wheel guns, wheel guns need advice

Darky, if you will be shooting a lot in double action mode then you need to know that the triggers on the S&W's and Rugers are quite different. I mostly shoot my DA revolvers in "proper" DA mode since much of my shooting is for action style shooting. And for my tastes I prefer the smooth seamless S&W trigger pull over the Ruger DA pull where there's a "click" in the pull just before the hammer breaks. I find that a touch annoying. But then my S&W's were around before I got my first Ruger. So I might be conditioned.

If you will shoot the guns mostly in SA mode (Single Action) then either is great.

Speaking of single action.... I missed seeing any suggestions to buy a Single Action Army style revolver. Or no one up to now has suggested one. If you already have a bevy of double/single action revolvers then it may be time to consider a proper 1873 clone or a modern Ruger single action. Especially for casual target shooting where a few more seconds to load is not a big issue. There are options to be had in all the regular revolver cartridge calibers and a few which can also eat some of the more common semi auto rounds. And rimfire options too.

Target shooting with what's available on today's market, go with a S&W. Slightly more accurate than their Ruger counterparts in my experience, and better triggers. If you are going to shoot a lot of magnum loads, go with the L or N frame revolvers (I prefer N, but that's a fit thing). Colts are just as accurate (Korth too) but not in current production. FWIW - dan

Thanks for all the great advise once again! I do own a .22 in the bear cat and although it took a bit to get used to the fact that it shoots low (maybe just the large front sight threw me off) I really enjoy it and am now leaning towards a smith. Hell maybe I'll try all your suggestions out at the stores, guns are kinda like breasts to me, I like the looks of them and I enjoy handling them too! Lol thanks again guys!

Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 Mag. You can hammer nails with these revolver and then go shoot them. Don't want to shoot magnum rounds?- load down or shoot 44 SP. If you really get into it Ruger SA are the Mr. Potato Head of the revolver world, modify away.

Smith & Wesson 4.2 inch 357 magnum and the 44 Magnum are wonderful in my opinion and I also like my Uberti El Patron in 45 colt .
