Wheel weights

Managed to get hold of a 5 gallon bucket of wheel weights this week. Today is the first really beautiful warm day of the season here in North Carolina where I live and guess how I have spent it so far. Yup, you got it, melting lead. I have melted about a third of the weights and have about 35 lbs of ingots. Think I will quit for the day. This much lead will make about 1600 38/357s or 1000 45ACPs or maybe almost 1700 30 cals. Now all I have to do is to cast the bullets, size and lube them and then reload them. A very time and labor intensive enterprise, but I like it and it certainly makes for inexpensive shooting. Making the ammo is not as much fun as shooting it, but it's better than watching TV by a looong shot. hope you all have a great day too.

I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a bit and I'll be back at it making WW ingots as well. The yard's a little muddy right now so I'll cast from my reserves for a while longer.

2wks ago a buddy an I smelted 500+ lbs of WWs. We were too itchy to wait for spring, temp was -12 plus wind chill. Did it from the edge of a garage door. The heat off the lead and propane burner kept us warm enough and P100 Hepa masks kept the air good enough to breath fine. Just wished all that lead was silver

Winter is the best time for me to do because I live in the suburbs of Ottawa. Folks aren't lounging around in their yards in winter, so it's the perfect time for me to create my ingot supply for spring/summer. I bring out that turkey fryer propane setup with my big cast pot right in the middle of my driveway.

Speaking of which, spring changing tire season is coming soon. That means the shops that have my buckets will be calling me once per week instread of once every 2 or 3 months!
