Anyone using this combo?

I jus got some 250gr Interlocks to load up.. I havnt loaded for 250gr before so back to the manual.

shooting out of a ruger hawkeye now sitting in a ramline synthetic, so back to the drawing board.

What your experience?

bit surprised to see il barely crack 2500fps with 250 grainer!

heres ADIs data

250 GR. HDY SP AR2208 0.358" 3.220" min 50.0gr 2348fps 44900 cup max 55.0gr 2486fps 49900 cup

Not that speed ever killed an animal any more than dead, trajectory certainly felt it , after all this is my up close stalking rifle.

I've used a bit of Varget with 250gr Speers over the years. Fairly stiff book loads always worked well in Remington 7600s.

Now using Varget with 250gr Hornadys in a 358Win with good results as well.

look like they hold up well into the dirt so no problems on the critters, looks like im about 2400fps bracket with 53gr of ar2208 for the sweet spot in my ruger.

reading around the internet an its common for the 250gr interlock to be associated with elk hunting.

where do you happen to sight the 358 in at 100m?

mine sitting about 2 inch high which sounds good for out to 250m?

WL

Yeah, same reason why I went with some 'cheaper' bullets as id finished the Woodleigh boxes I had and then changed into a new stock so went for gold.

its actually 1.8inch high to get exact LOL

will be perfect for its needs. im now itching to have it out hunting... but a knee reco last week prevents this.

* speakin of prices.. what are you paying for 250gr hornady interlocks?? I paid $80 per 100 down here :/

I can't imagine why Varget wouldn't be a great powder in the Whelen. It works very well in the x62 so it should translate nicely. The 2500FPS is, I guess, just about all the Whelen has in the tank.

A bit over half of that. That's the over-riding theme of Aussie component pricing, I just expect to pay double and it works out. Woodleighs are an exception to that, I pay a dollar or two less per box then you probably do but they are very close. If I lived in Australia I'd try Woodleighs first in every rifle I owned.

While we're at it, gun prices are about 50% over to double as well. Factory ammo is more or less double for the American stuff, but that varies a bit. I never thought I'd see blue box Federal 30-06 for $42 a box, but I never thought I'd see Norma sell for less than Federal either. I bought Norma factory ammo for less there than the empty brass costs here.

I did use Varget for 250 Speers but ended up using H4895 more for my 35 Whelen. I seem to get better velocities with that powder compared to Varget in my rifle a Ruger no 1 with a 24" barrel and 1-12 twist.
