I have a couple of loads for my 35 Whelen to shoot 158gr bulk pistol.

One uses SR-4759, and the other uses Reloader 7.
I can't find either of these powers locally, so does anyone have or know of any other 158gr Whelen loads.

I've read some guys use Red Dot, but have no real data for it.

Thanks

If Trailboss is available, it would make a good starting point for your loads. Another powder to use would be Unique. Somewhere around 4 grains should work. Adjust accordingly.

Google Rocky Raab,

For any who have never heard of this magic combo, 13 RedDot will work with ANY cartridge .30-caliber or larger, with cases of 308 Win capacity or larger and (as mentioned) any bullet of normal weight and type for that round. It always gives 1400-1600 fps, is accurate, quiet and clean. Truly magic.

I seem to recall Speer #14 having reduced loads listed for the Whelen? I'd check myself and post the data but I lost it in a housefire last year.

The Speer #14 manual shows the following for a 158gr pistol bullet Whelen load:

IMR 4895 - 45grs
AA 2015 - 40grs
Reloder 7 - 42grs

Thanks for the info guys,

After some research, I ended up using some Alliant 2400.
Not sure on the velocity, but it 3 shot groups at 5/8" and hits dead center 3" below my 250gr rounds @ 50yds.

FWIW, SR-4759 has been discontinued.
It was my go-to cast bullet powder for mid-range loads too. I have a few pounds stashed away which will last me maybe a couple years but then I'm out :(
