whelen vrs win

I'm just wanting a nice mid bore at modest velocity that will do as good on a moose at 250 yards as it will on a bear at 25 feet. I have bigger and smaller. I want a short gun that I can drag thru anything and any weather without worrying about scratching and denting it. Sort of a 1 gun does it all when the conditions get bad.

A 20" 358Win would be perfect for this list of needs.

This whole 35Whelen vs 358Win debate would be exactly the same as the old 308Win vs 30/06 debate. Not a lot off difference either way.

I agree... a 18-20" .358 Win would fit perfectly with Brybenn's criteria... Too bad he doesn't like the Ruger stocks because the Compact or Frontier would fit the bill perfectly.

BB, save your money and keep your eyes open for a mod 7 KS in 350 RM..........You can have the metal ceracoated or whatever you want and you will have exactly what you desire in a rifle with much more oomph than a 358 Win and a shorter lighter rifle than a Whelen. My KS jumps and points like no other rifle I own and I shoot it offhand as good or better than most rifles...........you would not be disappointed in this choice. I have all the mentioned cartridges in very similar rifles and the 350 RM is far and away my favorite of them all.
