i was 'guiding'....... an we were sit an waiting down low on the farm fringe....
i left the ol fella down there an said i would climb up higher , an try spook some deer down.....
i climbed up with an hour of light left an snuck around through a gulley an up into a nice looking part of the hill, of course, on the lee side in the sun. perfect condition for bedding.
HONK HONK
the deer jumped up about 80 meters infront of me but out of sight due to the Wattle trees and thick foilage........ DAMN it!
they were heading toward the Hunter though, altho much higher on the hill,,, i thought we were in with a chance.
Honk.
the hind kept honking as if Alarming something else..... ?
i crouched down an waited a while, maybe 3 minute....
crunch-
snap
russel.??
the bush was making some noises to my right, with the alert deer on the Left of the ridge. me in the middle and something to my right..
eyes soon picked up a set of Tips of antler, taken 1 step at a time, Curious as to what has interupted the sleep time....
a few more steps an i make out Brows..
i know it isnt a big one.... but hey.... ive got the .35 Whelen in my hand...
this deer is at 30-40meters, real close mind you......
steps a few more, looking in the direction of the honking hinds......
i lower the boom, base of the neck.
He never took another Step. DRT
required a finisher but thumped by Thors hammer.
250gr Nosler Partition.
not too bad
next morning whilst still "guiding", i shot that Dog....
scared every deer from here to timbucktoo.......
almost mentioned a Refund is in order.... as im the one doin all the shooting.
but alas.
the following mornin i got him on one......
very unlucky deer, as fella took about 3 minutes to find the thing in his scope in the brush / fog lack of focus etc... lol anyway... happy days
