Hi guys, Can we talk .35 Whelens and Varget powders?

Have you tried this powder for your Whelen?
Behind which bullet and weight?
how was your accuracy at 100m?
did you get a chance to chrono these loads?
do you care to share your Grns you used?

Cheers
WL

Its been years since I worked up the loads for my .35 Whelen; but I do remember struggling a bit with the 250 grain Hornadys. Once I tried Varget,(AR2208 to you) that all changed. Groups at 100 were typically well under an inch, with many of those touching. Velocity made 2400 fps, barely. My load is 55 grains of Varget in the Remington brass, 210 Federal, and 250 gr Hornady Interlock seatted to the canulure but not crimped.

The rifle is one of the first 7600s made in 35 Whelen, my wife bought it for me as an engagement present in '88? I think. Still got both of them, but memories getting fuzzy.

The Whelen was on my short list for my Aug NT cull hunt, but a .300 Win and a couple '06s edged it out at the last minute. Maybe next time.:)

Thanks Dogleg, Yeah 2208 here, which is why ive asked about Varget, as it relates to my loads etc.
just want to hear feedback for this powder an loads.

Im using 55grs of 2208, Federal primers, Rem brass, 225gr Woodleigh RN..... out of a 22inch barrel... Whattya rekon thats running at? i guess 2500 ish
Accuracy hasnt really been tested for groups, i did load development from 51-56 an found 55 to be pretty good.. back then my shooting accuracy was the weak link id say.... I done up a batch of rounds an plugged 2 downrange yesterday without wasting the Woodleighs as thats fine hunting accuracy, around 1.5-2inch . This could close dramatically but im not bothering at this stage.
its killed many Sambar in its time with this load.

v I use varget and 200gr ttsx |I will have to look at my range log to check how many grains Had about a inch with all 5 loads, also tryed rl15 found better accuracy with it. I have not crony any yet just got my new Cooper Excalliber in 35Whelen the other day so only ran a couple of batches of test loads threw her so far.

Varget is all I use in my Whelen. 58gr of Varget behind a 225gr TSX chronied at 2700fps in my 22" custom Whelen. Shoots around an inch at 100 yds.
