Hi Guys,
It's with some embarrassment that I write this, but two years ago I complained that I couldn't get a group smaller than 6 inches with my Remington Sendero (.270Win). Well, I finally got a friend who shoots tactical competitions to shoot my rifle to see if he could see anything. Well lo and behold he noticed that the parallax was horrible, that is with a slight movement of the eye, the reticle would shift at least a couple of inches.
What had happened was that I was using the parallax adjustment on the Var-X III scope as a focusing knob and at 100 yards the parallax was set to 30 yards. Compounding this I noticed that the reticle was not quite clear. I read the manual of instructions for the scope and focused the eye-piece for my eyes. I then checked the parallax with the proper yardage dialed in and noticed that it was virtually gone.
At the range today, my groups at 100 yards were about an inch, and given that the wind was really howling, I thought that this wasn't too bad.
And to think that I almost sold the rifle.
I'm confessing this firstly because nobody here knows who I am
and also so that others won't make the same stupid mistake that I made.
Cheers,
Rubber Ducky
