When and What was the First Gun you Shot

Seems like an easy question to answer but my first answer was wrong when a Dude asked me at the shop.

Our Scout Leader had a Farm near Orangeville and a Pump Action Tube fed .22

we shot about 10 rounds each of his Kitchen Porch at some tin cans and margarine containers in the early 1980`s

There was maybe half a dozen boys that weekend, we all had a great time.

It was no big deal, but you know, we all saved some of the brass. :)

Which is also what ended the Session,

Fkn Davy kept jumping out front after the Ejected Brass.

The second time was much cooler,

but I have to Plea the Fifth Amendment for that. :slap:

Cooey Model 60 .22 in the mid 60's. Mom didn't like it and made my Dad sell it. I have the same rifle now with an identical Weaver B4 scope.

My uncle's Colt SP1 and Commander 9mm when I was 7. It was 1980; I have the Commander and picked up an SP1. Too bad Trudeau and Bill B'liar say I'm the danger and can't shoot the Sp1...

At the range with Dad, can't have been older than 3 at the time. .22 of course. The earliest I can remember is going gopher shooting at around 8 y/o with a Ruger 10/22, hated the things since, go 597! :stirthepot2:

Cooey model 60. Dad caught us listening to his Beach Boys record. He was not mad - he just said he did not want us boys listening to that so he pushed the record into the grass in the back yard and my brother and I shot that record full of holes ! lol. 40 years later I still have that Cooey model 60 AND an 8 year old boy who gets to shoot grandpa's Cooey and many others ! ( it's still stuck in my head...she's real fine my 409 ! )

When I was a Auxiliary for the Toronto Police Service a Officer took me to the 52 range and let my shoot his Glock 22. I had a some much fun that I looked into how to get my PAL licence (got it in 2012) then the 2nd gun was a Canadian Military C7 rifle that I shot while in the Canadian Forces.

My Dads Cooey 64. I was 4 years old and I loaded in the biggest round that would fit, a 22 magnum round, aimed it at the pit freezer and pulled the trigger.

A passed-down I-J break .12ga with 28" bbl. I was likely 14 yrs old at the time. I learned how to use it to hunt ptarmigan (we just called 'em partridge though they are truly ptarmigan) with my father who had either an 870 or Win Mdl 12 both .12ga. Never saw anything other than .12ga growing up in Nfld. Rarely .410 & didn't even know that .16, .20, etc. even existed. 1st handgun was father's 5" Model 10 - was around 17 maybe...?

The first time I ever touched a firearm was during my training/qualification for work. It was a Smith and Wesson M&P. I had so much fun that I bought my own handgun. Now I have diversified into rifles, but handguns will always be my favourite to shoot.

Single shot bolt action 22lr. No idea the model or anything else. It hung by its trigger guard on a nail in my grandpas shop at the farm. My cousin and I would do whatever we could to ‘help’ grandma and grandpa with the chores so he’d have the time to supervise some target shooting. I was probably 5 or 6

Even after we both had our own 22’s (I was 10) we would ask grandpa if we could borrow his squirrel gun. That beat up old 22 is still in the family, but I can’t remember if my uncle or cousin has it.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
