When did...

Kinda funny but I was thinking the same thing after looking at some M1 Garands. My Dad wanted one (he only has his possession license, so it would really be my rifle in my name) but after I told him of the prices they go for he was staggered. Of course he is coming from a time when they sold surplus Enfields out of barrels in hardware stores and the Garand was a common rifle so I can see his point.

I'll still have pick on up someday.

No idea how it got that way all of the sudden...

If I can't find one for under $800, I'm just going to gather parts over time and build one myself. $2500 is rediculous for a rack grade M-1

That is a stupid price. Most go in the $800 range.

They haven't been selling for $800.00 or less for a while now. The Breda's in good shape are $900 to $1,000.00. It is obviously supply and demand; with the demand outstripping the supply. I don't think they are quite at the $2,500.00 mark yet......yet.

when did Garands become $2500 rifles? Did I miss a cataclysmic event?

Cheers

Theres 2 ads for the $2500 Grand and one ad for a $2000 Grand.

Haiku Poem Time:

For 2.5 Grand,

It would be Grand,

If all the Grands sold,

Give your head a shake, ain't gonna happen!

They seem to be going in the $800-$1200 range nowadays. If you are planning to assemble the parts to build one plan on spending the about the same amount. A sound stripped receiver to build on is $100. Good quality barrels are in the $300 range with another $150 for a stockset, $120 for a bolt, $125 for a trigger housing assembly, $100 for a gas cyl assembly, $70 for a rear sight unit, and $100 for an op rod. Then there are the various receiver internals, not to mention the cost of having someone do the barrel installation and maybe some parkerizing. The days of $250 Garands are long gone.:(

There are two clowns selling ( for real) refurbished garands, who seem to think that they are worth 2000-2500. They are mental.

The other posts are simply jokes to show how crazy the other fools are.

If someone pays 2.5k for a refurb garand, they have more money than brains. Waaaaay more.

Personally I don't think the EE is the place for "jokes". Hopefully the Mods will take an extremely dim view of frivolous posts like those and deal with them accordingly.

I agree that the EE shouldnt be for jokes, but I wouldnt exactly suggest that they be dealt with "accordingly".

I agree. Someone is gonna think thats the going rate and really make an ass of themselves. Hell, I just sold mine and thaought I missed the boat on a 300-400% value increase!!!
