When do bears come out

So my question is how do you judge weather they are out yet.

Saw whatcha did there Looky ..
Here in Central Ontario, we expect 'em out when the sedge grass around the swamp verges becomes exposed.
Any time now.

Last week of april-first week of may around here

Might be a some of Grizz poking around before, but generally about the same here. No sense getting up if there's nothing to eat.

this winter while pine apple express hit southern Yukon few grizlies has been seen out and it was in January. so they may be out and then going back to their dens.

any bears need fresh vegetation to start the digestive system back and remove the plug.


that doesnt mean they wont be out even without eating ...

Check south facing right of ways where it has started to green up. The railroad right of way was a major attractant, when the rest of the country started to catch up the bears thinned out considerably. No big deal to see 5-6 bears in a mile stretch early spring. Lots of cubs.

I am in the cariboo. Where are you?
Besides seeing them and tracks. What tells you they are out?

I'm in region 6....sometimes see a few in mid april but mostly its the last week or first week of may....normally there needs to be some green grass starting to grow before and that happens first on the south facing slopes...I'm in the coastal mountains...been out looking around a bit this weekend and no sign or tracks yet.
