for good in the forests of Sask. I'm wondering if I should burn a little honey and see if any come in when I go moose hunting in a couple of weeks or will they be in bed by then? Is it a temperature thing that gets them hibernating or is it sunlight related like deer rutting?

I imagine the Saskatchewan bears will either have hit the hay now, or be sitting on the edge of the bed, thinking about it.
I would say quater to November is about right, then they come out and are awake by quarter after May. However, they seem scarce until about half past May, or quarter to June.
Grizzly bears are the last guys to bed and the first up in the spring. An old boar grizzly will sometimes get up about half past January, because he got hungry, and wanted something to eat. If this happens, they are just like a grumpy old man would be, if he got up in the middle of the night; hungry, tired and in a very bad mood. Stay to hell away from him!

Sows den first. They take the time to line the den with marsh grass. (if they are pregnant) Boars often roam until mid november then crawl into a pine root bed or crack in the rock. They will let the coming snow cover them for insulation. They are the first ones out in the spring because the poorly prepped den will often be wet with spring run off.

Sweet Deadhead, I'll be out North of Love. Even if the seasons not open it'll be interesting to see what's still awake and kickin' around.
