From time to time I have seen Remington 700 BDL's advertised. Some of these do not have iron sights.
Either they have been removed or were never there.
Some may have BDL stocks and appear to be BDL's but Remington says that for it to be a true BDL it came from the factory with iron sights.
Just my 2 cents worth and please correct me if I am wrong and I am not accusing anyone of misleading others.

To me a true BDL has gloss bluing, and the gloss stock with skip checkering, black forend tip, butt plate and grip cap seperated by white spacers.

^ absolutely correct and some BDL's came with detachable mags.

Just to me personally when you read 700 BDL for sale it looks like this:

OP ............. The above is true for the 700 BDL model, but many refer to any 700 with a hinged floorplate as BDL as well.

I guess if it is your rifle what it is called is in the eyes of the beholder.
The above though is what someone at Remington thinks.

funny hey, Ive owned several of both BDL and ADL, some had sights some had a clean barrel, some on both had holes tapped for sights and just plugged ??

I always just associated the difference to a BDL having a floor plate and the ADL having a blind magazine.

This is how it was explained to me before:
ADL-blind mag, Monte-Carlo stock
BDL-floor plate or detachable mag, Monte-Carlo stock with black grip cap and for end.
CDL-floor plate or detachable mag, straight stock with black grip cap and for end.
Classic-floor plate, straight stock
