The aussies were refunded pretty generously from my understanding. My guess is they would want to placate the pissed off guy with the gun, and offering him a peanut for his 2000 dollar investment is not fostering healthy relations with an already reluctant community...

For IDPACONVERT, I can assure you that those who had firearms seized when OIC 12(4) came into being way back in the early 1990s were offered zero compensation. I have several friends who happened to own FAMAS rifle and Franchi SPAS-12 shotguns at the time. None received a penny in exchange for complying with the legal edict to surrender their firearms for destruction. The smart ones were able to export them to the US prior to their 94 Assault Weapons Ban and got their money back. Most didn't.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. In this country, registration DOES equal confiscation. The truth of that statement has been repeatedly borne out, and is being validated yet again with the proposed handgun ban.
Just ask any 12(2), 12(3), 12(4), or 12(5) owner about the current market value of their legally-acquired (and duly taxed) firearms purchases. Those firearms are doomed to confiscation and destruction upon the demise of the current owner, with zero compensation paid to the estate. No bequeathing to heirs, no nothing. Unless you choose to donate them in your will to a museum - for a whopping 17 Cents on the appraised value dollar....
All of the 12(x) firearms were voluntarily registered by their owners on the Lieberal "promise" that they would then be left alone. Yeah, right. First, they registered those firearms. Then, a couple of years later they prohibited and grandfathered those firearms - reducing the investment value to zero. And most recently, the Lieberals have decided that those very same firearms are suddenly too "unsafe" to fire at certified ranges, so they have stopped issuing the "one-time-use" Special Authority to Possess permits required to transport the "evil guns" for target shooting. All of the above despite the fact that NO crime has EVER been committed with a duly-registered 12(x) firearm in Canada. NEVER.
But mere facts and logical arguments can't stop the Lieberal "social engineers" from enacting their utopian socialist will upon the people of Canada. They will keep on screwing you and I until they are removed from power. It is really that simple. The proof is soundly reflected in their actions to date. They WANT you to be a victim, entirely dependant upon their inadequate "societal safety net". That way, you are merely an impotent subject, bending at the whims of those who would decide your fate.

Bottom line is this. My firearms are priceless, and therefore are not for sale..... I might trade my old cooey single shot for a stab at belinda! Other than that, nothing in my collection is worth what will be offered. I buy guns to keep them, not sell them. If I wanted to sell guns I'd open a gun store.

can you imagine a couple of leo's coming to your door to confiscate your ar 15 .I think they would be scared shi***less .I think most would demand back up(swat team) or just refuse to do it . They would be exposing themself to an unhappy well armed person.

nevermind the fact most AR's have more invested in accesories than the rifle itself. do you think they'll even car if it is a bone stock CQ311, or a full decked out colt flat-top with SIR this, GG&G that? or and how about the 10+ mags most AR owners have.
