When to FL and when to neck size

These guy who say they get 20-50 firings because they are neck sizing only are full of s**t!!

I've heard it quite a bit on other boards including from highly experienced and reputable members; even moderators.

They also anneal the case necks pretty much every firing though so perhaps that is what does it.

These folks are also trying to achieve maximum accuracy not maximum speed.

Moderate loads do not stress the case like full balls to the wall loads.

neck size a few and see if the empties still chamber with minimal resistance. A little is just fine.

If you have some cases that nee to FL, don't screw the die down ll the way. Set it so the shellholder gets with a quarter or nickle thickness of the bottom of the die. Lube the case and size them. This is partial sizing. See they now chamber OK. If they do, proceed. This reduces the working of the brass and setting the shoulder back more than is needed.

If you are going hunting, it is IMPERATIVE that you load all the ammo in the mag and cycle it through the rifle, making sure it will chamber ok. The problem, must be found at your loading bench, not in the field. Learn by the experience of others.....

Wise advise. Whether you fl or ns, you should always check to ensure they chamber properly. If you go on a hunt or compete etc and realize at that point they don't chamber, who's fault is that?

20+ fireings is not an uncommon number from people I have asked for pistol casings at least...

for low pressure loaded .45 acp the brass can last a lot longer too

ive also had factory loads split the casing, so YMMV,

rifle rounds need some more sizing sometimes, but I agree with ganderite, the less you fatigue the metal by resizing it the longer it lasts
