just asking all you yote hunters , which time of day do you have the most success first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon? i have taken 3 yotes out of my backyard this month all have been first thing in the morning. never tried to hunt them in the late afternoon. was thinking to try this just to mix it up a little.i am only on a 10 acre property but there does not seem to be any shortages of them this year .THANKS LBO

Either one works for me..... Morning hunts allow me more time to hunt so I might be able to do two sets (two different farms)..... Evenings I am usually limited (time wise) to do one set only (one farm) but I have seen success with both....

If I had to pick a time, it would be at first light. Setting up adjacent to likely bedding cover during the afternoon can be good too.

If you are just hoping to see one wandering around, early morning. If you are calling, if they can hear you and don't know you are there and haven't been called before and it's cold, any time of day works.

Evening hunts dont usually work well for me smart coyotes will wait until dark to investigate. They dont always run across a field strait towards u like u see on predator quest.

First light is the best time. I do not hunt afternoons because you make more smart then you Kill. Coyotes are night time feeders here in Ontario and will hang up in the afternoons and wait out dark. When you pack the set in, You bust more then you shoot.

First light is generally best for reasons that Adrian said. However I do have a spot that I can access very quietly and with a SW or W wind I can sneak in, set up the caller and have a great set mid morning to mid afternoon. I don't usually go for evening sets, always worried about having to exit the area in the dark and educating them too much.

Why do you want to kill these poor innocent coyotes just for the fun of it?

I understand hunting for meat and gopher hole risks in pastures but ........

Why do you come to a hunting forum and ask why anyone would hunt predators. You obviously don't own livestock or care about population of fur bearers.

Just happened upon your post under "new posts" and the title kind of resonated with me.

I like guns and shooting and support hunting for meat, but not killing just for the sake of killing and thinking it is just fun.

Why would you assume coyote hunting is, “killing just for the sake of killing and thinking it is just fun”? You would do well to learn a bit more before passing that kind of judgement.
