When will 7.62x39 get any (new) love?

Since the last bans we've seen 5.56 get all sorts of coping mechanisms. First it was the turkish semis, then we got lever and pump options and more recently the Carmel and Makasi.



SO WHEN ARE WE GONNA GET ANYTHING NEW IN 7.62x39?!



I already have three SKSs, a RAR with AR magwell and a CZ Trail.



Im hoping something modular(ish) similar to the Carmel comes out soon!!!
 
If anyone could accurize the SKS to make it a 2 moa rifle that would be great.

Also wouldn't you be able to put an AR-15 7.62 bolt head, barrel and magazine in a makasi? Or maybe just go to 300 blackout?
 
The 7.62x39 is/WAS popular, because it was cheap, and the rifles (SKS) were dirt cheap.

Just yesterday a guy told me that he bought his first SKS from Canadian Tire for $69, 20 years ago.

Today they sell for $1000.

The biggest draw back of that cartridge is its lack of accuracy.
 
MRA now offers the MRA Renegade in 7.62x39 as a factory option, I've seen it as a 12.5" version on some of the sponsor sites.

CZ announced they are making the CZ 600+ carbine, the spiritual successor of the CZ 527.

Semis would be hard to come by.
 
I agree that it's under loved. Good enough for deer, super soft recoil. The MFS fmj brass cased stuff shoots decent and is well priced. PMC and S&B have hunting rounds for close to a dollar each. It isn't as cheap as it was, but neither is anything else...

I have a lot of fun with my BCL Bison in x39. Cleaning a bolt rifle isn't as painful as a semi IMO, so there's that. I'm getting surprisingly good accuracy out of Chinese surplus stuff.

Would really like a MRA too at some point, I'm just not too sure how well it would work with steel cased stuff. Found my father's SBI LPC straight pull was pretty gritty even with brass cases. I dunno how much a difference the Renegade spring assist would help...

Yet surplus ammo used to group pretty well in my bolt guns.

Surplus 7.62x39 and 5.56 is pretty much equal in accuracy but no one ever says their biggest drawback is being inaccurate...

Commercial and handloaded ammo was 1 MOA or better often enough.

The SKS being (sometimes barely) minute of man accurate does not make the cartridge inaccurate

I don’t know about lack of accuracy, I am getting .75MOA at 100 yards…. It just the ballistics don’t work at long range for the cartridge.

I agree with this. It’s accurate enough, with enough stopping power for deer out to 150yds.
Pretty much the cheapest rifle cartridge for hunting deer, and even cheaper for blasting at the range with surplus.

Depending on where you’re hunting, it can be a good choice to avoid over penetration. Neither of the deer I have shot with 7.62x39 had an exit wound but both were dead on the spot. Less wasted meat and no worries of where the bullet might be going after passing through.

If you use quality ammo, within its operational range, dollar for dollar i find it more accurate than .223 or 5.56.
To get the most out of .223 or 5.56 in a 1/8 barrel, you need heavier weight bullets which generally cost $2/round or more. Sure you can get a box of FMJ 55gr or M855 for $13/box but they’re 2moa at best in the guns I’ve tried and no good for hunting.

For $2/round I can shoot Hornady Black SST’s out of my 7.62x39 bolt gun into a 1” hole at 100yds no problem.
S&B SP’s are closer to $1 a round and still outshoot most similarly priced .223 or 5.56 at 100yds.
 
Hope Mackaski stays around long enough to offer an 7.62x39, as I would love to shoot something similiar to my AR, that's useless for now???
Have 2 CZ 527 that shoot Chec surplus really well, also a very easy round to load for, in my last run 527 rifle, it shoots MI carbine bullets real well at 100yrds, weird?

Ruger American here. Have shot sub 1" groups with VV N120 and H4198. Hodgson CFE BLK has been close. Hornady SST, Speer Gold Dot. Barnes TSX has given me some great 6-10 shot groups while working uo loads. BLK is great for speed
