When will I be able to buy the 6.8 western?

yes, .270 wsm does interest me. I'm led to believe its only a couple hundred FPS more than .270 win so not really worth the change. How do they feed? I've heard that can be ####ty as well but I dont really know, just internet research...

A couple of hundred is a LOT ! The NEW cartridge is designed to shoot heavier bullets ( 175gr)in a short action More for long range 600 plus yards and beyond ! RJ

I wonder what they'll do meat damagewise on a deer at 100 yards. I've seem some carnage from 7mm remmag when killing deer at 100 yards or closer.

7mm's already have the heavies covered.... .277vs.284....7 thou difference, never really understood the need for anything .277 personally.

Manufactures keep on trying to re-invent the wheel. There is nothing to see with this new cartridge, just like the 6.5 Creedmore.

In these times of ammo shortages I would be much more excited for manufacturers to deliver more of what we already have then waisting resources developing "new and improved" cartridges that will likely fall on their collective faces. .

The 270win is a great cartridge IMO, if you're buying factory ammo its a great hunting cartridge, shoots flat and ammo is available practically everywhere. However as you point out the 7's have heavy-for-caliber covered in spades (not to mention the 6.5s on the other side).

My prediction is if you want a 6.8 Western you better get one quick, and stock up on brass because I see this going the way of the dodo in short order. I just don't see how this can become popular when there are so many 6.5 and 7mm options that do all the same things this does. You'd think Winchester would have learned from the "success" of the 7mm WSM...

What about my 270 Win. mag.? Oh I know, add Reloder 26, accompanied with a 27" man barrel, and voila, magnum!;)

You could of saved yourself a lot of money and effort in getting a 24" 6.8 Western and shoot factory ammo that will blow the doors off that 130gr Accubond downrange
