I loaded up some hawksebury river cast copper coated 245grainers in the 375bb,

I done 23 25 and 27gr, which is on par with 38-55 loads. Ranging from 1500 ish to 1800ish...

So far i test fired at 30m the 23gr rounds. All on target an baring the 1st, satisfactory for in the headlights with a peep sight.(2 within inch, 1st yank trigger hope it dont blow )

Going to wait until tomorow although i wanted to ask, how soon would i notice if im sending them too fast? Obvious lead visable in the tube..?

Very slow at the moment so isnt showing any signs.

Im using AR2207

thanks

The manufactures webpage should list the recommended velocities for your plated bullets. The biggest problem with plated bullets is when seating the bullet scrapes the copper plating off or over crimping and breaking through the plating.

The pistol bullets below show seating and over crimping damage and will cause leading.

The plated bullets I use are swaged lead bullets that are copper plated and not cast bullets. And the rifle bullets have a much thicker plating for shooting at higher velocities.

You may want to invest in a Lyman type "M" expander to prevent damaging the plating when seating your plated bullets.

Below is the type "M" expander I use for my .223/5.56 rifles.

The link below shows what can happen with plated bullets, BUT they show pistol bullets.

Thanks for the Link.

I think these projies are dipped? In the 'copper' coloured coating.

They hve a line up on 'silver hawk' ' blackhawk' and'copperhawk'

Google hawkesbury river bullet co, you will see what i mean.

Copper hawk is the hardest, i would est 1800 bein pretty right.

I have an 'exp' die , in a green box i think they are rcbs??
Il have to google what that is, maybe im using it wrong or maybe it is just a neck expander to flair the case??

I did strike a bit of problem when i fls an depcapped the cast projie would be tight, with the expander it fell down thru, with decapped via 35whln die and trimmed if needed, projie would grip enuff to light crimp in place for tube mag.

mate I will have to excuse myself on an error in the OP, the bullets are what they call Dry Lube coatings.....

http://www.hrbc.com.au/products.php description of the coating types.

Mentions the Copper hawk is designed for extreme velocitys around 2200fps+...
I don't need to go around 2200, an will try keep it around the 1800 mark

further testing this afternoon, when this hang over pisses off

cheers

look I have settled on around 1700-1800fps, recoil is sharp and accuracy is fine.

no sign of leading at this pace, bullet maker as mention says 2200 is possible...

putting this thread an talk to 375 to rest here, will take it to CB

cheers
