What we really need is a review of the entire prohib system. Banning weapons based on what if possibilities of criminal behavor have to be against our rights and freedoms.
Getting the firearm reinstated could be as easy as writing in letters, basing it on the historical aspect of military service would be good, as well as showing that it is still a viable rifle for hunting and target shooting.

well, first of all, there's several different "flavors" of fn, both metric and imperial pattern- the ones canada had, were, for the most part semi-automatic and imperial pattern; other places like isreal, and rhodiesia, had multiple shots with one pull of the trigger- the canadian version went restricted back in 75,because the liberals said so and we couldn't have the same gun as the military- then in about 78, the aussies started surplussing theirs and those COULDN'T be any different , sp provision was made for them- thenin about 1990, the isreali ones started to show, but they were restricted ( the any variant clause) and somewhere in the mix were the ones from ishapore - then in 92-93 they ALL were declared PROHIBITED WITH GRANDFATHERING- the isreali ones are multiple shot versions, the canadian fnc1d( the navy version) is a multiple, the aussie had the markings for auto fire on the receiver, but had a semi auto trigger group, that's why some are considered converted auto;s 12(3) and some are 12(5)
the irony of it was that dat told me to buy a m14, as we could see the noose tightening around the fn as early as 78; the m14 would NEVER be touched as it wasn't a full auto without the kit, and there was NO WAY to install it with the roller bearing ground off as specified by the cbsa- WELL, IT HAPPENED ANYWAY- and dat went to his grave argueing that it was a SEMI-AUTOMATIC,not a CONVERTED AUTOMATIC- you can't convert a semi-automatic into a semi-automatic- DIDN'T MATTER- scoc ( which is ALL LIBERAL APPOINTEES) SIDED WITH THE CROWN
Nope, too young. I would much rather see the AR-15/AR-10 become classed regularly than see the fal come off the prohib list. Honestly if they were even in the same ballpark range price wise I would much rather have an FN-AR and they are already non-restricted. Better mounting for optics, AR-10 mags and a heavy barrel.
But picking and choosing is kind of pointless, it all needs to be scrapped. Nothing on the prohib list deserves to be on there. Plus the long gun registry is really the most important thing at the moment. It pretty much ensures no future prohibitions. "We're here for your CZ858" "Ya I sold that a while ago....." or "Lost it boating"
